This is the disadvantage cl
having one’s right to speak
and write freely sharply cur
tailed. This is done by the
process of “brain-washing,”
falsely caUed education carri
ed on in the South and also by
the definite and powerful dis
approval of one’s neighbors if
he speaks exactly what he
thinks about the race prob
lem of this'section.
We may sum ui^ by saying
that, in our opinion, the dis
advantages of being white are
more. serious than the disad
vantages of being black, be
cause the former deal with
the “spiritual life” of a man
or woman, wh^eas the latter,
or the disadvantages oi being
black, are mostly of a materi
al nature. What does it profit
to gain all the nutterial
resources of a civilization at
the expense of losing his soul
and missing the spiritual heri
tage of his cvilization?

Foun^r's Day
SALISBURY
Among the significant annual
observances held on the campus
of Livingstone College, the most
outstanding is that of “Foun
der’s Day” when the college
pays tribute to the founder and
first president of the institution,
the late .Dr. Joseph Charles
Price. This year the I03rd birth-
day-annlversary of Dr. Price
will be celebrated on Wednes
day, February 13, instead of the
traditional February 10, and
this 62nd observance marks one
of the highlights ih the
mond Jubilee” events depicting
the 75 years of progress made
by the collegc in the city of
Salisbury. *
It is also noteworthy as it
marks the 32nd year of distin
guished leadership by Dr. W. J.
Trent, president of the institu
tion, who just recently observed
his eighty-third birthday. It was
under Dr. Trent’s administra
tion that the extensive advance
ments of the college came.
All of the regular college ac
tivities will be suspended on
“Founder’s Day”, and special
services will be held at the col
lege auditorium in the morning
at 10:30 A.M. and in the after
noon at 2:00, P.M.
