FISK VNIVBRStTY’S red hot Bulldogs surround Coach But Thompson ajter making a jet like takeofi in the SIAC basket ball race. Sporting record of 5 win* and 0 losses as of Dec. VC the fast breaking Fisk cag- ers have relied on dazzling speed to make up for their lack of height. Bulldog regulars include Arthur Murphy, guitrd of Phila delphia; Leroy Wright, guard of Nashville; Harold Shaw, for ward of Chicago; Samuel Cle ment, guard of New York city; Kennard Reeds center of Hous ton, Harold Searcy, forward of Nashville, and Bobby GiHiam, forward of Nashville. PROPHECIES OF MODERATES (Continued from page Two) . of conflicting ideas to the point where no ac tion at all is possible. About the only crea- tice effort the moderates can produce is ver bal, like the soothing syrup spooned out by governor Collins, who explained his position to the AP writer thusly: “My statements have dealt with basic prin ciples, reflecting my own basic attitudes and thinking of long standing, and have been calculated to encourage our people to de velop a sound and constructive attitude, bas ed upon calm thought and imderstanding.” Denied the field of activity by their own philosophy, the moderates are ill-equipped to visualize the handling of a serious problem like desegregation which defiej treatment in the moderation method. Their moderation dogma which stresses only the partial truth will not permit them to see the whole truth, therefose it is easy to see how they can paint nothing but a black picture for the South in the area of desegregation. And lust as they are prevented from seeing the oroad per spective, they cannot lead their constituents nor give direction to them in this touchy area. In fact, they are more led than lead ing. The real danger in men like Hodges and Collins is that they create a fashion in the ruling circles which spreads out to influ ence the most remote individuals. What is worse, they serve to convince the rest of the country that the best course for the South to follow is one that is half right and half wrong. But the biggest factors accounting for the resistance to desegregation in the South is traceable to men like them, who stand for doing nothing in moving toward complete extension of freedom and democ- iracy to everybody.
