Kennedy Jr.. retired presi dent and now chairman of the Doard of Directors of the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Co. was the guest speaker. Kennedy spoke highly of the progress made in the community in the past 10 years under the leadership of sudh men as Mr. r>arbce. He also took note of the larse membership of the school in proportion to the membership of the church. E. W. The menu consisting of fried chicken, potato salad, garden peas, chittlings^ cold slaw, hot rolls, but ter cake and hot Russian tea was sen’ed in buffet style to the in vited guests. Crawford Final rites for Albert Frank Crawford, 1007 Ferrell Street, were held at West Durham Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. T. C. Graham, West Durham pastor, officiated. Burial at Beechwood Cemetery followed the church services. A resident of Dur^^m for more than 40 years, Crawforrd died at a local hospital on Tuesday, March ). He was 58. Born in Alamance County Sep- ember 23, 1900, the son of thej 'ate Frank and Martha Mebane >awford, the deceased moved to lurham in 1916. He was employed )y Liggett and Myers Company for lany years. He was married to the former vliss Novella McBroom and they lad one daughter, now Mrs. Annie Crawford McCollugh, both of whom urvive him. He is also survived by one randson. Club Holds Monthly Meet The Up to Date Galeda CUib held its regular monthly meeting Thursday night at the Y.M.C.A. on Umstead Street with M(s« Jose phine Knox as hostess. The meeting was opened with the usual devotion with the Presi dent, Mrs. W. H. Fuller, presiding. Mrs. Beatrice Suitt was welcomed as a new member to th^ club. Several members from the Dor cas and Utopia Clubs were present and many frields. Dr. A. S. Croom, Dr. W. H. Fuller and Rev. Griswell gave very helpful and en couraging remarks. * . I GLAOrS BROWN Brown To Lead YW Programs Mrs. Gladys Brown of Durham, chairman of the North Carolina and South Carolina Young Adult Weekend Conference of the YW- CA, who will preside at the two- day session, Saturday and Sunday,, March 14-15 in Greenville, South Carolina. Mrs. Brown, a teacher at the Pearsontown School is very active in the Adult Activities Department of the Harriet Tubman Branch YWCA. She is also president of the Gay Y’ers Club and chairman of the Interclub Council of the de partment. She plans to attepd the Young Adult Regional Conference in Nassau, June 8-14. Others Attending are Misses Mary Morrison and Margaret Hazel and Mrs. Nezzie Clarke, program director of the department.
