Smith U., retired as Dean ot the Seminary on August 31 and became Dean- Emeritus and Professor of Practi cal Theology, effective September 1. Dr. George was succeeded by Dr. R. Edwin Thompkins, Professor of Church History in the University’s Seminary. Dr. George joined the Univer sity’s faculty, in 1934 when he left the pastorate of the Shiloh Presby. terian Church of ^oxville, Tenn. He became Dean of the Senjinary in 1946. Under his direction the curriculum was expanded, the en rollment increased and the Semi nary was moved into: a new plant with excellent facilities. Also un der his leadership th^ Seminary achieved accreditation by the cal Schools. > In addition to his appointment as Dean-Emeritus and Professor of Practical Theology, Dr. Cieorge will spend a considerable portion of his time working with churches, presbyterias and synods throu^- out the country, thus strengthen ing the University’s ties to the work of the Chnurch.
