W. Main St. Phona 681-8931 v«tjr close to my hearjt. Of all the pleasures of life in whic^ anv of us can participate, music, both in Listening and partlcipa- ti(^, can be wonderful. . Yet, I’ve noticed many older pef^ns have a feeling they can not participate in much of the mutic today. I suppose much of ths( reason for this is that we have *o much prepared music coding to us through record "^ers, radio and television, teenagers, we have fun by with'tlM mAd m we tMUih 4ith> et or clean the bouse. l%e most enjoyable experience that one can have is to gather around a piano with the family and sing. Occassionally, I hear an old er person say he cannot sing or even a younger person may say that. So what? None of us are opera* singers and few of us have bad tralninc. We could get fun out of sing ing if we wonld sing and not worry about how it sounds to other people. A teenager’s voice is lovely because it expresses the enjoyment he is having by sing ing. The same would apply to jufl listening and singing along an older person. ditveii, one Ibt! iMMri things one can ae* ii * ytnon closing the hymn book after the iwstor announces a iong just t>ecause he can’t sing or is afraid to sing. There are some music majon in our community I think ahould be recognized. Leon CoU is the church organist at West Durham Baptist Church and Is an NCG student. Patricia Bowling, as sists with piano playing at West Durham Baptist's Sund a y School. She is also an NCC stu dent. Marinda Mumford, a student at Winston Salem Teachers College, is also a music nMjor.
