The meeting, held at Grady Community Center, was the opening fall meeting for thg or ganization. Welcomed to the sorority were Mrs. Gloria Massey, wife of North Carojlina College’s new president, and Mrs. Hester Orr, wife of a newly appointed North Carolina College professor. Mrs. Massie joined her hus band in Durham at the begin ning of Setpember. They were formerly in Washington where he was on the staff of Howard University and an official of the National Science Foundation. Mrs. Orr, also a newcomer, came to Durham with her hus band from Normal, Alabama where he was a member of the faculty at Alabama A. M. and N Sorority members were en Mahalia To Have Role in TV Production Mahalia Jackson, the world’s leading gospel singer, has been set by producers Stuart Millar and Lawrence Turman to play herself in a guest appearance in “The Best Man,” the film ver sion of Gore Vidal’s Broadway comedy hit, whichji Franklin Schaffner is now directing for United Artists release. The noted vocalist, who has toured the world under State Depirtment auspices, and more recently sang at the Civil Rights March on Washington, will in a sense re-create a bit of history in “The Best Man,” by singing at a presidential nominating convention. In a similar appear ance Democratic con vention which nominated Adlai Stevenson, Miss Jackson’s sing ing was one of the electrifying highlights of that event. ’The cast of “The Best Man” is headed by Henry Fonda, Cliff Robertson, Margaret Leighton. JEt'FEIlS GASTONIA — Miss Evelyn Erwin, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Herbert Gardin, of Brad ford Heights, Gastonia, and Al bert Lewis Jackson, son of Mr and Mrs. Allsert A. Ja'ckson of Robinwood Lake Community, Gastonia, were married in an impressive double ring ceremony Saturday at 4:00 p. m. at Center Baptist Church. The Rev. H. B. Washington, pastor, heard the vows exchanged. Principal Frank E. Parker, of Hoffman Road School, was or ganist for the nuptials. Vocal soloist was Mrs. Jymmie J.
