NEW YORK—Dr. James A
Perkins President of Cornell
University, has been elected
chairman of a newly formed
Board of Trustees of the Unit
ed Negro College Fund, it was
announced this week by Wil
liam T. Gossett, chairman of
the Fund's Board of Directors.
Dr. Perkins' election follows
action taken by the Fund's
leadership to reconstitute the
organization's directive and
policy-making structure.
As chairman of the newly
constituted board, the Cornell
educator will head a group of
45 distinguished educators and
community leaders, including
the presidents of the 33 pre
dominantly Negro colleges and
universities affiliated with the
United Negro College Fund.
John D. Rockefeller 3rd, who
has been associated with the
Fund for many years, will
serve as honorary chairman of
the new Board of Trustees.
Bank Honors
NCC Grid Team
The Mechanics and Farmers
Bank honored the North Car
olina College football team
Thursday, December 8 with an
informal gathering in the
school dining hall. Members of
the NCC faculty and staff along
with citizens of the community
were on hand to pay tribute
to the 1965 edition of the
Eagles gridiron squad.
Dr. Leroy Walker served as
toastmaster for the occasion
and thrilled the group with his
humorous quips and anedotes.

tor, I. O. Funderburg, repre
senting the Mechanics and
Farmers Bank and Coach Jas.
Stevens made brief speeches to
the gathering.
Entertainment was provided
by the Thrillers, four mem
bers of the football team, who
sang "White Christmas" and
"Do You Love Me."
Dr. Samuel P. Massie, presi
dent of the college, extended
Christmas greetings to all in
attendanc to close the cere
monies.
