Methodists Make More Than $7,500 Contributon to Bennett GREENSBORO Methodists of the North-Carolina Virginia conference reported nearly SB,- 000 in contributions to Bennett College for the first six months of their fiscal year during their mid-year conference on Christian higher education at the college recently. The Rev. L. A. Brown, of Greensboro, conference treas urer, reported a total of S7, 740 received but said that Con tributions received af'er his report was prepared would raise this amount by at least SSOO. The Central District, headed by the Rev. J. W. Gwyn. reported $3,243 and next in order was the Western Dis trict, of the Rev. J. J. Patter son, with $2,236. The Eastern District of the Rev. J. W. Fer ree contributed $1,318 and the Virginia District of the Rev. J. B. Bethea, reported $853. Dr. Willa B. Player, presi dent of the college in welcom ing the ministers and their wives, told them of the build ing program calls for bids to be submitted shortly for a new residence hall and a two-story infirmary. Graham 204 Long Dr., Rockingham, was assigned to the 82d Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, Nov. 11. Elements of the division are currently in the Dominican Republic serving as part of the Inter • American Peace Force. An integral part of the Strategic Army Command, the 82d maintains an immediate force for airborne deployment throughout the world. Keen of Route 4, Durham, are serving aboard the destroyer USS Samuel B. Roberts, which is deployed to the Western Pacific with the U.S. Seventh Fleet. Destroyers are high - speed ships used primarily in anti submarine Warfare. They also operate offensively against sur face ships, defend against air borne attack, and provide gun fire support for amphibious as saults. • • • HARRIS ISLAND, S. C. J. Hayes High School, is being reassigned to Whiteman AFB, Mo., for duty with the Strategic Air Command. His wife, Inez, is from Ja maica, West Indies. AMVETS GROUP HAS ANNUAL XMAS PARTY The Amvets Auxiliary held their Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Minnie T. Forte, December 27. Members present were: Mesdames E. Page, V. Ross, Betty Durham, L.
