Circuit Court of Appeals here to over turn a lower court's refusal to enjoin Baltimore police from searching private buildings without first obtaining search warrants. NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund lawyers along with attorneys for the Baltimore NAACP branch brought the appeal in behalf of seven Baltimore Negroes. The suit is a class action in behalf of all Negroes similarly situated. It stems from an in tensive police manhunt a year *go for two Negro brothers suspected of the Christmas Eve holdup of a liquor store and the subsequent shooting of two white policemen. In the 19 days following the crimes special police squads, in many cases acting on anony mous "tips," conducted more than 300 searches of Negro WHEN YOU CONSULT US ABOUT REAL ESTATE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT AND INSURANCE MATTERS, OUR MANY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN PROPERTY MANAGEMENT, AUTO, FIRE AND ALL KINDS OF INSURANCE PROTECTION AS SURES YOU OF THE VERY BEST. FOR TRYING TO USE VOTING RIGHT ATLANTA, Ga. Stokely Carmichael, Lowndes County Ala. SNCC workers, said that over twenty families have been evicted because they were ac tive in the Lowndes County, Al abama voter registration cam paign. The evicted people will be living in "tent city" in tents put up on seven acres of land that the Lowndes County homes, churches and business es for the brothers, Samuel and Earl Veney. Most of the searches were conducted without search war rants, although warrants for the arrest of the Veney bro thers had been issued. As a result of the raids, Ne gro residents of Baltimore, through the Legal Defense Fund and the NAACP, asked the U.S. District Court in Bal timore to enjoin Police Com missioner Bernard C. Schmidt and his subordinates from con tinuing such searches. After lengthy hearings last January and February the court on April 14 declined to issue injunctions. The Veney brothers were ar rested in March. SATURDAY, JAN. 8, 1966 THE CAROLINA TIMES— line article in the January "You the Reader" issue of Seventeen Magazine. The teen age daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Evans Sr., of Route 1, Christian Movement has pur chased from friends of the Movement. "The people were told to get off the land by January 1," says Carmichael, "but they're not going to get off because they know there are no jobs in the big cities. They know if they leave, the strength of the voter registra tion campaign would diminish." Tent City is being built seven miles from where Mrs. Viola Luizzo was killed and twenty miles from where John Daniels was killed. SNCC workers, Stokely Carmichael, Gloria Lar ry, Scotty B. Smith and Fay Belamy will stay in the tents with the evicted farmers. Tents are being used because some 1 families are too large to move in with relatives or friends. The tents will provide more space. GOT THAT FEELING AGAIN? Chltr You can breexe through tax time with a smile. Just plan ahead. Put money aside a set sum regularly.
