Linney of Hiddenite, N. C. has been selected for training at Sheppard AFB, Tex., as an Air Force aircraft main tenance specialist. The airman, a 1961 graduate of Happy Plains High School, Taylorsville, recently complet ed basic training at Lackland ASB, Tex. He attended Agricultural and Technical College of North Carolina, Greensboro. JACK AND JILL DAY WILL BE OBSERVED The Durham Chapter of Jack and Jill, Inc. will observe its annual Jack and Jill Day, Sun day, May 1, in the Education I Auditorium of North Carolina ! Year 'Round Garden Club Holds Meeting The Year Round Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. Gazella Lipscomb on Maeklin Street, April 18. Mrs. Emma Randolph opened the Garden Gate. Due to the illness of the president, Mrs. Madge Mar graves, Mrs. Plassie Harris, vice-president, presided over the business session. There were reports of various com mittees. The meeting then took the form of a workshop on Horti culture. J. C. Hubbard, speaker' for the evening, led the dis cussion. He explained the three parts of the seed. He said we can see that God is not dead as we see the beauty of His handy work and also that \ve plant our gardens to beautify God's earth He also explained how and when to prune. Flow ering shrubbery should be nryned right after they finish blooming. We were well in formed on how to care for our gardens. Mrs. Lipscomb assisted by her sister, Mrs. Jannie McLean, served a delicious repast. Mem bers present were Mcsdames Flossie Torain, Mary Green, Cora Jackson, Emma Randolph, Plassie Harris, Alice Collins, Annie Mayo, Roxie Rowland, Gertrude Long, Lena Gates, Jannie McLean, Eugenia Sim mons, Miss Edna Mason and guest, J. Mungo at her home at 2409 Rich Street Sunday, April 24 at-three o'clock. The meeting was opened by the president, Mrs. Roberta Joy ner. The main discussion of the meeting was centered around the upcoming birthdays of the members of the club. After the business session, Jhe hostess served a very deli cious repast. Umsteads Host To Missionary Bible Class The Missionary Bible Class of Mount- Level Baptist Church met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Umstead, 1014 Plum Street. Mrs. Rachel Jones led devotions, after which, the president, Mrs. Roumania Lips comb, presided over the busi ness session. Reports from va rious committees were given. Several recommendations were made.
