Sponsored by the National Education Association in co operation with two of its af filiates, the District of Colum bia Education Association (DCEA) and the Arlington Edu- PACKSACK LIVING AND JUNGLES TALES SCOUT THEME FOR MAY "Packsack Living and Jun gles Tales" are the themes for May. Boy Scouts will practice out door skills and learn more about packsack living in the Cheyenne Leaf District in May according to Lewis N. Owens, District Commissioner. Packing Light, a backpacking campout, will test the Scouts ability to carry all needed food and equipment to a special camping spot. Scouts will use dehydrated and dried foods that take up little space and re quire no refrigeration, Owens said. At troop and patrol meetings, there will be instructions on use of hike clothing and equip ment, types of packs and how to pack them, preparation of individual and patrol equip ment, menu planning using de hydrated food, campsite selec tion, proper methods of tent pitching and camp sanitation procedures. More than 600 Cub Scouts in the Cheyenne Leaf District (Durham) will follow the theme "Jungle. Tales in May." "Tie Jungle Book," the Cub Scouts will make Jungles cos tumes and properties with the help of their parents, learn jungle dances and pre pare to perform at the month ly pack meeting. High school age Explorers will select in May from such program activities as American Heritage service projects Ap praisal Night, and a training session for the "Ready" emer gency preparedness program. The training session will cov. er family preparedness and emergency living including home fire prevention, home fire-escape plan, home fire fighting, first-aid in the home, emergency food supply, and where to go and what to take in case of emergency evacua tion. Many of the Boy Scout will be attending Camp Reeves in Moore County April 29-30 and May 1. Explorer Scouts will join in with them in helping on their awards.
