Mrs. Willier McKeithan and Mrs. Viola Moore were in charge of devo tions. After devotions the presi dent, Mrs. Marie Clark, took charge of the business. After the business session, the hos tess served a delicious repast. Pineapple cake and ice cream ■were also served. C. Mutual Retirement Club was held Thursday afternoon in the dining room of the Harriett Tubman YWCA. C. M. Palmer presided and extended cordial greetings. Members were ex tremely happy to welcome Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Turner, "Vie" and "Pops" as they are affec tionately known, to their first meeting Mrs. Turner made a brief expression of her interest in the Retirement Club and mentioned some of the activi ties that prevented her from attending earlier meetings. She retired as Financial Vice Presi dent of N. C. Mutual last De cember, but she is still serving on the Board of the Company and rendered valuable service in connection with the recent new home office building dedi cation program. In addition to Palmer and Mr. and Mrs. Tur ner the following members were present: Mesdames. Nola Cox, Bessie Doby, Consuelo Foreman, So phronia Green, Eula Harris, Fannie McLean, Charity Rivera, Celeste Smith; Messrs. R C. Foreman, C. C. Smith, Jr., and James Strickland. An enjoyable dinner hour and a lively discussion of cur rent events almost took the time alloted for the program hour. C. C Smith, Jr., presented a two-part nutshell of material he had gathered including somewhat humerous commen tary of "Signs of the Times," and a serious reflection on musical greats who overcame the handicaps of deafness to hear from within and to pro duce some of the world's most enduring and beautiful music. President Palmer commented on the forthcoming trip to Florida where N. C. Mutual Trip Winners will be honored at the President's Club Conven tion. The Club took note of the illness of John Holloway who is confined to Lincoln Hospital, and was informed that suitable expressions had been made on the occasion of the deaths of Mrs. Hattie Meadows and Wm. WILLIAMS HOSTS TO GLEANERS CLUB SUNDAY The Gleaners Club of St. Mark met Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs. Ollie Williams, 1207 Kent Street. The meeting was opened with a short devo tion, afterwhich, the business session was presided over by the president, Mrs. Lula Royal. The club will have its anni versary Sunday, May 29 at 5:30 P.M. Rev. Thornton, former pastor of Kyles Temple Church, will be the speaker. Misic will be rendered by the Gospel Chorus from St. Mark artd a group of singers from Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
