IUE Workers Launch Drive
To Place 1500 Job Trainees
WASHINGTON, D C—The
membership of the Interna
tional Union of Electrical
Workers is launching a mas
sive recruitment drive to
place 1,500 disadvantaged
persons in on-the-job training
programs, Secretary of Labor
W. Willard Wirtz announced
this week.
Under a $156,376 Labor De
partment contract, the IUE
will develop on-the-job train
ing agreements initially in 12
cities where the electrical
union has a concentration of
members.
IUE membership will con
duct a person-to-person, door
to-door campaign to seek out
hard-case unemployed and
underemployed persons for
job training.
Electrical manufacturing
firms, large and small, will
provide the main source of
