BOULWARE Guidance Pronunciation Question: Our minister uses often the word "guidance", bait he mispronounces it. He in cludes three syllables and ut ters: "guid-i-ance." How can we call his attention to it without creating offense? —Mrs. P. L. Answer: Well, I'm not sure just how you shmld go about this, but something needs to be done. Often the shock-ap proach is good. Just courteously and calmly call attention to his error. The word should be pronounced: "guidance." "fluid" to rime with the word hide, and "ance" to rime with prance or chance. You might try engaging him in conversation with the nu cleus word "guidance" being the center of discussion. Just keep pronouncing the word correctly. HEADERS: For my pamphlet, "Speech at the Dance", send 30 cents to Dr. M. H. Boulware, Florida A. and M. University, Box 310-A, Tallahassee, Flori da—323o7.
