Teen-Ager of the Week
"You are Timea' Teen of the
Week" brought that ever pres
ent charm and sunshine smile
to Valeria Daniels, a senior at
Merrick-Moore School.
Valeria was selected by D.
M. McCaskill the principal, for
her outstanding citisenship
qualities and practices, her def
inite purpose to develop her
potential and her dominant in
terest in people.
The daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Nathaniel Daniels of Rte.
4, Box 53, Green Road, Valeria
17, is the younger of two chil
dren.
More hours in a day would
be to Valeria's liking because
of her daily busy schedule.
Free time is unknown to her
because she constantly uses
every bit of her time and op
portunities to the best of her
advantage.
An honor student, Valeria
loves sports, dancing, reading,
and all kinds of music. Her
ability to sing well is compati
ble to her ability to get along
with others.
Among her future plans are
those to study next fall at
North Carolina College at Dur
ham to major in sociology; and
further her education in a
graduate school of Social Work.
"To become a Social Worker is
my greatest ambition."
- This week's teen feels her
self a part of the school and
takes part with zest in non-aca
demic activities such as the
senior high school chorus, edi
tor of the school papr, presi
dent of Merrick-Moore chapter
of the National Honor Society,
secretary of the student coun
cil, treasurer of Future Home
makers of America, president
of th# senior class and mem
ber of the Literary Club.
"Val", as she is called by
her many friends, is an active
member of the Community
Baptist Church where she con
tinues her leadership ability to
responsibilities as Sunday
School secretary, assistant di
rector of the junior choir, Vice
oresident of the Junior Mis
sionary Circle, a member of
the young Adult Choir and Bap
tist Training Union.
As hobbies Valeria remarked
"singing and playing the piano
are the things I like to do
most." She insists singing and
listening to muSfc bring vol
umes of joy and satisfaction
"which I find difficult to put
into words."
