On Tuesday night, Febru ary 21, Mrs. Beulah Coley Edwards, was hostess to the West Durham Blossom Garden Club at her home at 922 Thaxton Avenue. The "Garden Gate" was opened by Gardener Ruth Stephens. She included in her opening a song, scrip ture, prayer and a most in teresting quiz on the presi dents of the United States. During the business ses sion,. the group discussed the South Eastern Flower Show to be held in Chaf lotte. Mrs. Margaret Allen gave a most informative re port on the Dogwood, our state flower. She concluded her report by reading the poem "The Legend of the Dog wood". A delectable menu was served the following: Mesdames Addye Coley, Naomi Parker, Lula Earl, Margaret Fuller, Beatrice Spencer, Daisy Gunn, Mary Allison, Anna Pearlie Duke, Gertrude Gibson, Misses Mary Louise and Ruth Stephens. Mrs. Mary Horton became a new member of the club. Mrs. Allen thanked the hostess for an enjoyable evening. Jj ACE PILOT—EM ward Garner, Jr., Pleasant Hill, a senior in political science at A. and T. College, and a cadet officer in the Air Force ROTC Detach ment, was last week named "top pilot" in a class of 12 students nearing completion in the flight instruction pro gram being conducted at the college. Garner, an honor student, last week flew home to the nearest airport at Emporia, Va., as one of several cross country flights, a part of the training program. He hopes to become fighter pilot following his commission ing as an officer in the Air Force in June. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Garner of Pleas ant Hill.
