Larkins. ■k 3 JAMES LYDE Saturday, Mrs. James Lyde of 1027 Rosedale Avenue was found dead lying face down in New Hope Creek in Orange County. While fishing with a companion. Mr. Lyde possibly suffered a heart attack before falling into the water, reports Orange County Medical Exam iner. His companion, Brogdon Smith of 1030 Rosedale Ave., was some distance away at the t'me. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Martha Lyde; three daughters, Mary Brenda Lyde and Mrs. Ella Joyce Mc- Adams, all of the home; his mother, Mrs. Mattie Lyde of Durham; two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Hutchinson of Baltimore and Mis. Scarlie Thornton of Dur ham; four brothers, Wesley Lyde of New Haven, Connecti cut; Marvin Lyde of Darling ton, S. C.; Charlie Lyde of Bal timore and Booker T. Lyde of the home; and two half sisters, Mrs. Vermel Swinton of Dur ham and Mrs. Sallie Thomas of the home. # * « ALLIE ROBINSON Mrs. Allie Robinson of 2403 Cheek Road died at her home last Monday. Surviving are her husband, Daniel Robinson; three sisters, Mrs. Mara Wil liams, Mrs. Amey Johnson and Mrs. Rebecca Webb; and two brothers, Luther and Robert Johnson. Funeral services wye held Thursday at Russell Memorial CME Church, conducted by the Rev. C. R. White and the Rev. J. E. Thorpe. Burial followed in Glennview Memorial Park. HUBERT TENNEY Graveside rites were held at 1:00 p.m. last Thursday in the Beechwood Cemetery for Hu bert Tenney of 619 Pickett St. Mr. Tenney died in a local hos pital Monday, May 22. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Joyner and two grand children. HENRY S. BULLOCK Services were held at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, Creed moor, for Henry S. Bullock, Saturday, May 27. The Rev. C. T. Bullock, officiating. JOHNNY L. JONES Johnny L. Jones died at his home Saturday, May 27. Serv ices were held at Cameron Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery Monday, May 29. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bessie Jones, five daughters, Mrs. Isabell Thomas, Mrs. Mary Cradle, Mrs. Novella Parker, all of Durham, Mrs. Ruth Rob inson of East Orange, N. J. and Mrs. Cornelia Moore of Brook lyn, N. Y.; four sons, Johnnie Olives of Durham; Percy Peaks of Durham; Elijah Jones of Brooklyn, N. McClain formerly of Durham Monday. McClain died in Brooklyn, N. Y., last Wed nesday (May. 24). Mrs. Dalton has lived in States ville for the past several years and previously taught public school in that city. She is a member of First Baptist Church of Statesville. She attended public schools of Durham, North Carolina College, Columbia University and University of North Caro lina. The speaker is a member of the Fayetteville Street School faculty of Durham. Vernon members graduating from various schools was held Wednesday evening, May 24, at 7:00 in the Church Educational Building. A peageant of honors was pro duced and arranged by the pro gram committee and narrated by John C. Washingtpn. Bible verses of courage was read by Mrs. Virginia Mason followed by prayer by J. C. Wilson. Music was under the direction of Miss Violet Perry with Mrs. E. H. Fog.e, accompanist. The pag eant opened with the audience saluting the Christian and the American flag, displayed by Harold and Warren Washing ton. Mrs. Ruth Washington intro duced the speaker, Miss Gladys A. Paulson. She brought an in spirational message to the graduates. Gifts were presented by Mrs. Elaine Jones. Encour aging remarks were mad'e by Mrs. Lizzie Crews, instructor of Business Education at N.C.
