101 ST SESSION OF
CONVENTION TO
LYNCHBURG, VA. May 14
thru 17, has been set as Vir
ginia Baptist State Convention
week at Virginia Seminary and
College, Lynchburg, Virginia.
Rev. W. M. Brown, President
of the Baptist State Convention
and Pastor of the First Baptist
Church, East End in Newport
News announced that the Min
isters' Conference of Lynchburg
and Vicinity will play host to
the Convention. Rev. Brown
also stated that, all of the Con
vention sessions will be held on
tf)e campus of the college in
Humbles Hall.
The theme will be "Facing
Life With Christ."
Five hundred or more dele
gates and guests are expected
to attend the Convention and
many outstanding religious and
lay leaders will participate in
the events of the week. Listed
among the participants are, Dr.

Fashion Revue was one of the
main attractions, which was
narrated by Miss Hilda Dur
ham, Director of Health, Physi
cal Education and Recreation.
Tokens of appreciation were
awarded to Pre-teens and Y
teens for selling potato chips
in the Annual Spring Sale.
Gwen Bobby from Shepard Jr.
High School sold the most
cases. The funds for the sale
are used for the summer camp
ing program, for sending dele
gates to the Virginia-Carolina
Summer Y-Teen Conference,
and for on-going Y-Teen pro
gram. Congratulations to Mrs.
Audrey Boykins, and Mrs. Mary
Norwood, advisers of the Shep
ard Junior High School-Y-
Teens, for receiving the prize
for the club having sold the
most potato chips. a

ning was the crowning of M'ss
Co. Representing the company
at the ceremony was Miss Bar
bara Harris, left, a represen
tative of the public relations
firm representing the company.
Miss Barbara Howard of Wilson,
received a similar award as the
outstanding student for the
year.
Pre-Teen and Miss Y-Teen of
1967-68. Michelle Umstead of
East End School Club, and Re
gina Hayes, a Hillside High
School Senior, were crowned
respectively.

executive director, announced
that Mrs. C. C. Smith, a mem
ber of the committee on ad
ministration received in behalf
of the Durham YWCA, a check
for $20.00 for the Harriet Tub
man building expansion pro
gram from the Pearson School
Pre-Teen Club at an assembly
program recently. Mrs. Marion
W. Williams is the Pre-Teen
Club adviser, and teacher at
Pearson School. F. G. Burnett,
principal, praised the work
done by the club as cafeteria
hostesses for the year and chal
lenged the fifth grade girls, the
future Pre-Teens, for a good
follow-up in next year's club.
Plans are under way for resi
dence camping for girls ,7-15
years of age, July 6-13, at
Camp Whispering Pines, Reedy
Creek State Park, in Cary. Ap
plications are available at the
YWCA Branch. Day Camp ap
plications are also available at
the YWCA for boys and girls
3-10 years of age, June 17-Au

Church Honors
Mrs. J. Justice
For Service
Mrs. John (Mary) w. Justice
of 600 Gny Street, was honor
ed recently by the St. John
Baptist Church during a spe
cial Appreciation Night pro
gram for her long years of
faithful service to the Church
and its organizations.
For the past twenty-eight
years, Mrs. Justice has served
St. John as director and organ
ist of the Senior Choir, and
was the founder of the popular
St. John Male Chorus.
In addition to her duties as
choir director-organist, Mrs.
Justice taught Sunday School
classes for a number of years,
and also served as an active
member of the Church's vari
ous missionary organizations.
Each of the more than fif
teen organizations of the St.
John C.iurch, including the
Deacon and Trustee Boards, and
the childrens' auxiliaries, pre
sented Mrs. Justice and her
husband, J. W. Jilstice, with
gifts, citations, flowers.
The Reverend L. M. Goocfc,
pastor of the Church, made
special remarks following the
unique program, and cited Mrs.
Justice for her continued years
of dedicated service to the
Church.
Music for the program was
rendered by the joint choirs of
