Principal at Madison Twice Lauded by City MADISON - John W. DU lard, veteran school principal here, has been honored twice this summer by the Macftsoo- Mayodan City School Board. A brand new elementaiy school, now under construc tion and to be ready for occu pancy in early October, haa been named in his honor, the John W. Dillard Elementary School. The new plant, to be fully integrated, is located im mediately adjacent to the Ma dison-Mayodan High School here. Hie announcement was made by V. Mayo Bundy, su perintendent of the Madison- Mayodan City Schools. Hie building, considered one of the most modem in the State, contains 12 classrooms. An outstanding feature is a circular facility of six class rooms for the primary depart ment which permits usage of rooms from one to all six. Earlier this summer, Dillard, who had served as principal of the all Negro Charles Drew High School since 1942, waa named principal of the newly created junior high school to open in September. The suit was assigned to Judge William J. Lynch. Mon day morning. Judge Lynch ruled against the Coalition for An Open Convention, which sought in a similar suit filed last week to force the city to grant a | permit for a rally next Sunday in Soldier Field or Grant Park. Presbyterians Begin Scholarship Competition for High Schools PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The 1969 National Presbyterian College Scholarship competi tion for high school seniors will begin officially this week., with mall in p on August 23 to some 12,000 people most like ly to inform high school sen iors of the scholarship oppor tunity. The list Includes 10,000 United Presbyterian ministers and other church staffers and 2,000 high school guidance counselors. Hie mailing includes the 1969 National Presbyterian College Scholarship folder, which Includes the application form.
