—THE CAROLINA TIMES 8A -Lawyers (Continued from front page) ties and at their draft boards i challenges to the maintenance of federal installations on a discriminatory basis; and broad attacks on the employ ment policies of American cor porate giants. Most recently, our Department has moved into the area of attempting to secure the release of black political prisoners such as Mar- tin Sostre. It is our belief that the basic reason underlying the dismissal of Mr. Steel is the effort of the Board of the NAACP to check the moves of the Legal Department in such controversial matters. Pursuant to our letter of Oc tober 24, 1968, addressed to the Board of Directors of the NAACP, copy of which you have received, we hereby ten der our resignations as mem bers of the legal staff. The resignations will be effective no later than November 29. 1968 Sincerely yours, Thomas R. Ashley Richard F. Bellman Anne G. Beldman Joan Franklin Jesse J. Lehman Robert F.
