to express yourself properly is
an art," said the comedian.

! Virginia Teachers To Recleve
RICHMOND, Va. The Vir
ginia Education Association
estimates that next year near
ly 75 per cent of the state's
teachers will be in localities
paying a minimum salary of
S6BOO or more and nearly 50
per cept will be in localities
where the maximum salary is
SIO,OOO or greater.
Currently 47 per cent of Vir
ginia teachers are in localities
with at least a $6500 minimum
and 29 per cent are in locali
ties with at least a SIO,OOO
maximum.
The estimated projections
for next year are based on an
ticipated increases and school
board proposals in addition to
current salary schedules.
To date the VEA has been
notified of established salary
scales in only two localities.
However, 23 school boards have
made firm proposals to their
governing bodies.
Mathews County has estab
lished a bachelor's degree sal
ary scale for next year rang
ing from a minimum of $6500
to $8350.
In Falls Church, the 1970
minimum will be $7250 and the
bachelor's degree maximum
will be $9788. However, Falls
Church encourages teachers to
earn their master's degrees by
$6,500 la "71"
providing a $14,500 maximum
salary for those who do.
School board proposals in
the 23 localities range from
minimum starting salaries of
$6400 to $7250 to maximum
salaries of SB4OO to $12,688 for
holders of the bachelor's de
gree.
These school board proposals
represent minimum salary in
creases ranging from S2OO in
already relatively high paying
localities to S7OO. Maximum
salary increases at the top of
the scale range from $306 to
SI4OO in the proposals for next
year.
