TV following courses are offered for youth and adults who wish to work toward an Associate in Applied Science Degree on
a part-time basis in Accounting. Business Administration, Secretarial Science, Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical
Engineering Technology and Automotive Technology. All applicants must be high school graduates. Tuition cost is $2.50 per
quarter hour

2 Federal Adult Ed. Programs
To Be Introduced to Educators
WASHINGTON. D. C. -
Two adult education programs
that ware developed and tested
with a Federal experimental
demonstration project pant
soon will be Introduced to edu
cators around the country.
Two 20-hour courses were
developed by the University of
Texas at Austin under a $220,
000 contract with HEWs Of
fice of Education. A course in
teacher awareness helps educa
tors understand the personal,
financial, and social problems
of students as well as their
learning difficulties. A training
program is designed to increase
the number of adult basic edu
cation counselors.
The teacher awareness pro
gram was field tested by 4,500
teachers in HEWs Region VI-
Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklaho
ma, New Mexico and Texas -
during 1969 and 1970. The
teachers have since taught ap-
proximately 75,000 of the
100,000 adult bask education
students in the lUgTorr.
To increase the number of
adult basic education counse
lors, who are in short supply -
last year there were only five
counselors In Region Vl-more
than 175 counselors were train
ed this summer under the
counseling program at State
workshops held in Region.
The teacher awareness and
counselor programs will be in
troduced to educators next
October in Atlanta, Ga., at the
annual convention of the Na
tional Association of Public
Continuing Adult Education,
an organization of public
school educators concerned
with adult education.
Upon request, program ad
ministrators and university
staff in Region VI will train
persons in the other nine HEW

1970. He is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Woodrow W. Brown, Sr.

He is married to the former
Miss Norma Jean Sutton of
Kinston. She studied at North
Carolina Central University
and the University of North
Carolina.
Attorney Brown Is a native
of Durham and graduated from
Hillside High School. He has
attended several Colleges and

house College in Atlanta, Ga.,

lina at Chapel Hill, and North
