North Carolina Central University's football Eagles are strong on speed and size, short on ex perience, according to Coach Quiett. With four practice sessions out of the way, Coach Quiett reported that his impression of the 1970 squad is that it is an exceptionally fast group. Even the big linemen are quick. QUIETT singled out a group of new players for specific praise. He will find it neces sary to rely heavily on fresh men and on a group of sopho mores who did not play last aeason. He will count heavily on two speedy Elizabeth City natives, both with the same last name although they are unrelated "Both Johnny and Lee Ernest Johnson show great potential as punt return specialists. Each of them runs the 100 in 9.7 or 9.8 seconds." "GREG BREWER and Har ness Cotton are outstanding as runners at this point," Quiett said. Both are veterans of collegiate play, although starting their first year at N.C. Central. Brewer played freshman ball at Michigan State University, before enter ing the armed services for two years. Cotton was a star at Pratt Junior College, Pratt, Kansas. Benny Thompson, a fresh man quarterback from Colum bia, S C., shows promise as an „C\>Jst*M v »g passer, Quiett said, while Dennis Matthews, a 6-3, 215-pounder from Boys High, Brooklyn, N.Y., and 6-2, 180-pounds Roderick Hodges of Fayetteville have displayed surerinr talents as wide re ceivers. FRESHMAN linemen of note, Quiett said, include Nathaniel Boyd, James John son, Wayne Stewart, Ronald McNeil, Perry Lattimore, Le roy Jones, and James Gravett. Boyd, of Elizabeth City, James Johnson, of New Bern, and Stewart, of Columbia, S.C., will be heading for the offen sive line. McNeil and Latti more will compete for starting positions at defensive end, while Jones will be trying for defensive tackle.
