Services will be held nightly at 7:30 p.m. Hie pub lic is cordially invited. American Ins. Ass'n To Hear Mayor Lindsay at Annual Meet NEW YORK - Mayor John V. Lindsay will head a group of government, business and education leaden who will discuss the challenge of mak ing cities livable and the pric ing of the insurance product at the American Insurance As sociation's annual meeting May 18-19 at the Hotel Pierre, New York City. Mayor Lindsay, speaking at the afternoon session on May 19, will -discuss the topic, "The Challenge)of Making Our Cities Livable. ' The two day program will feature a number of other speakers on various aspects of what has come to be one of the leading pro blems of the present time. Hie morning session on May 18 will hear Lorne R. Woithington, lowa Insurance Commissioner and President of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, speak on the topic, "Measure ment of Profitability." Mr. Worthington will be followed by Sterling Tucker, executive director of the Wash ington Urban League, who will discuss "Problems of the City Dweller." The afternoon session on the first day will open with an address on "Hie Role of Insurance in Making Our Cities Livable" by Richard E. Ste wart, former New York Super intendent of Insurance, now senior vice president and general counsel of the First National City Bank. Mr. Stewart will be fol lowed by Dr. William Haddon, Jr., president of the Insurance Publishers to Receive Carl Murphy Award ATLANTA, Georgia - One of the nation's Black news paper publishers will be awarded the Coca-Cola Com pany's annual Carl Murphy award at the National News paper Publishes Association's convention to be held in At lanta in June. Harold Hamilton, acting manager of the Market De velopment Department for Coca-Cola USA, made the an nouncement along with Sher man Briscoe, executive direc tor to the Publishers' Associa tion. He commented that it will be the fourth annual award sponsored in honor of the late Carl Murphy, former publisher of the Afro-Ameri can newspapers. Hie award consists of a specially designed plaque and an award of SI,OOO. He further stated that the award is given to encourage and aid the Black press in community service programs • activities which deal directly with the numerous problems being the Black community such as employment, educa tion, housing, and the com munications gap. The award is made to the newspaper judged as having conducted the most useful and effective communi ty service program during the past year. The NNPA awards committee, composed of dis tinguished journalists, will make the selection of its winning member. Mr. Murphy was a com munity leader as well as a newspaperman. He served on the board of directois of the NAACP, Morgan State Col lege, Associated Publishers, Inc. and the National News papers Publishers' Association. He also served the NNPA as its president and had interest and active roles in numerous com munity aftkirs. He received numerous awards for his works. Among them were two honorary doc torate degrees, the 40th Springam medal from the NAACP, The National Urban League American Teamwork Award, plus several fraternal and Masonic citations. Another convention high light will be the announce ment of the NNPA —Coca- Cola USA Scholarship winner. Give the other man credit for some sincerity of pur pose and you might be able to understand him better. Institute for Highway Safety, whose . topic will be, '"Die Insurance Industry: The Third Force on Environmental Is sues?" The morning of the second day will include an address by Professor Oliver Eaton Williamson, Department of Economics, University of Pennsylvania, on "Pricing Theory with Applications to the American Economy." An unusual feature of the meeting will be the demonstra tion of an illustrated talk on safe driving by a young man who was left a quadriplegic by an accident in a drag race when he was 18 years old. Hie young man, Jack Burnett, 26, has delivered his lecture under the sponsorship of the American Insurance Associa tion to more than 20,000 high school students through out the greater Cincinnati area. A panel discussion Tues day afternoon will have a group of senior executives of member companies discussing the topic,"lnsurance Problems of City Areas." William M.
