Mt. Calvary U
Hie Mt. Calvary member
ship heard an inspiring ser
mon on Sunday, May 9, by
our pastor entitled "I Love
You, Mother." In his dis
course, we were given many
reasons as to why children love
mothers. Rev. Cheek's final
assessment of the situation was
that throughout all of the joys
and sorrows, mothers are most
pleased when youth return
their love for them with a
commitment of responsible
living with God and mankind.
Mothers play an important
role thus we should try at all
times to be good examples.
We were pleased to have
several ministers on the roster
with Rev. Cheek, among these
the Rev. Stewart, who remind
ed us that although he was no
longer the pastor of one par
ticular church, he was still
instrumental in preaching the
gospel.
The Mt. Calvary Echoes
were reminded of their com
mitment at Hawfield on next
Sunday.
Another happy occasion
will be the ordination of two
new deacons on the Fifth
Sunday.
The men and especially the
women of our congregation
will be host to the Church
Women of the Southern Con
ference in a laity workshop on
Saturday, May 22, torn one

I The Job I
When Lincoln Hospital needed SIOO,OOO
within 30 days, I was called upon to head a
committee to raise this amount following an
unsuccessful United Fund Campaign and in
competition with the Christmas shopping.
When the low income group came up with
an idea of "self help," I was asked to head
a committee to sell $30,000 worth of capital
stock to make United Durham, Inc., possible.
More than $40,000 worth of stock was sold
locally to black and white.
When the black community decided to
honor Mr. L. E. Austin, publisher of the
CAROLINA TIMES, I, personally, raised more
than 25% of the purse from black and white.
When Sam Moore, the boys' friend, needed the down payment to pur
chase a new building for his shop, I was again called upon with good re
sults.
To get a job done, a leader must have supporters. It has been dem
onstrated that I have them.
