Caucus (OBC) of the Nations)
Education Association. Palmar
defeating the incumbent, Mrs.
Lauri Wynn of Wisconsin by a
narrow margin of four (4)
votes, was elected to lead and
serve as official spokesman for
the more than 800,000 black
educators in the NEA. The
election was held in Portland,
Oregon during the 110th
Annual Convention of NEA. '
The victory for Palmer came
following a registered protest
by Mrs. Wynn on irregularities
which she alleged occurred in
the voting area. The elections
committee reviewed the
complaint and held, "that no
Irregularities occurred." Palmer
becomes the OBC's second
National President.
The Official Black Csucus Is

Education Association which

Associate Actuary of the
NORTH CAROLINA
MUTUAL Life Insurance
Company, was recently
awarded the designation of
"Fellow, Society of
Actuaries,'' the professional
organization of men and
women active in the study of
actuarial science. Harrison
becomes the second officer of
a black-managed company to
achieve the coveted "FSA"
designation snd the fourth
black to be so recognized.
The society grants the FSA
title to members who
successfully complete s series
of ten professionsl
examinations and meet the
ethical requirements of the
Society. During 1972, 150
members were awarded the
designation, bringing the total
to 2,305 members.

Assistant Superintendent of
the FayetteviUe City Schools.

that W. T. Brown Is being
promoted to assistant
superintendent to take the
place of Asst. Supt E. E.
Miller, who has retired. Brown

U.S. WANTS YOUTH CORPS
MONEY HALTED
WASHINGTON -(NBNS)

federal government has told
local communities to begin
planning for implementation of
summer youth programs for
jobs, the U.S. has asked for a
federal court to block the
expenditure of $239 million
for the program.
A district court judge is
