Palmer, Associate Executive Secretary of the North Carolina Association of Educators, is a very closely contested race, was named President of the Official Black Caucus (OBC) of the Nations) Education Association. Palmar defeating the incumbent, Mrs. Lauri Wynn of Wisconsin by a narrow margin of four (4) votes, was elected to lead and serve as official spokesman for the more than 800,000 black educators in the NEA. The election was held in Portland, Oregon during the 110th Annual Convention of NEA. ' The victory for Palmer came following a registered protest by Mrs. Wynn on irregularities which she alleged occurred in the voting area. The elections committee reviewed the complaint and held, "that no Irregularities occurred." Palmer becomes the OBC's second National President. S. and Canadian insurers. North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company of Durham, which moved into the $1 billion in-force class in 1971, was joined by Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company of Los Angeles In 1972. North Carolina Mutual, with $1.4 billion force now ranks 177th in the industry, having gained 30 places over last year. It had the largest in force gain among NIA companies in 1972 -$,'178 million. Harrison, Associate Actuary of the NORTH CAROLINA MUTUAL Life Insurance Company, was recently awarded the designation of "Fellow, Society of Actuaries,'' the professional organization of men and women active in the study of actuarial science. Harrison becomes the second officer of a black-managed company to achieve the coveted "FSA" designation snd the fourth black to be so recognized. The society grants the FSA title to members who successfully complete s series of ten professionsl examinations and meet the ethical requirements of the Society. Of Fayette Wife City Schools BROWN William T. Brown, principal of E. E. Smith Senior High School, has been named Assistant Superintendent of the FayetteviUe City Schools. City School Superintendent, Dr. R. Max Abott announced that W. T. Brown Is being promoted to assistant superintendent to take the place of Asst. Supt E. E. Miller, who has retired. Brown will be in charge of programs for the Junior snd Senior High Schools. Replacing Brown as principal will be John R. Griffin, now principal of Washington Drive Junior High and graduate of A&T State University snd the University of North Carolina. Brown taught one year In SummervUle, S. C. before coming to FayetteviUe. He first entered the FayetteviUe school system In 1955, coming to E E. Smith High as a teacher. In 1956 he was named director of athletics, and served as assistant principal for two years, 1957-59.
