JOSEPH INGRAM AND GRANDSON With the amiable Miss Irene Hall, chairman of the Program Committee presiding, the official opening of the Union Baptist Church's Christmas Social, Season opened with a big splash, at Durham's Downtowner Motel Saturday, Dec. 7. It was a cold, rain spattered evening, but the members of the Pastor's Aid Society made the scene in grand-style. The long sweeping dinner-gown In definitely in: grogeous fur trimmed, gem-studded, shimmering apparel to enhance the festival season. Dr. Grady D. Davis, pastor, naturally the focal point of attention. He was tardy, however, he brought with him the necessary good-cheer to make the evening its usual gala occassion. There was carol singing, a warm, friendly welcome from the vice-president, Mrs. Mable Ingram. The one time hostess of the Pastor's Aid Society, has served as vice-president for three years, and has been elected to serve in this capacity in 1975. She has been a member of Union Baptist Church for nearly 28 years. She was very active in church work while her children, Larry, Jesse, Eric and daughter Gail (Mrs. Gail Ingram Hall) were growing up. At one time she was president of the popular UBC Wiling Workers, and served as Senior Usher for a number of years. Mrs. Ingram is the wife of Jessie Ingram. The gracious Mrs. Ingram thinks the PS's is a marvelous organization. "We have our problems, but we are Christians and our differences are thrashed out by applying positive Christian principles. Love is the guideline for this fine group of workers striving to do the things pleasing in the sight of God and beneficial to humanity." A side-splitting introduction to the after dinner speaker was given by Mrs. Josephine E. Turner. The Rev. John L. Caldwell was dubbed the ''Flying Preacher." ' A heartwarming message was delivered by Rev. Caldwell, Safety, Saving for hard-times ahead and Salvation for maing the world a better place was - the basis , of the young minister's Yuletide Message. Flack has been appointed Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences at Howard University. : From : July 107 1 until his recent appointment at Howard, Dr. Flack served as assistant dean, School of Health Related Professions, in the State University of New York at Buffalo. During the same period, he also held the position of adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Counselor Education at Buffalo and was program director for Summer Core-City Project which was funded by HEW. Dr. Flack got a Ph.D. degree in April 1971 from the State University of New York at Buffalo in Counselor Education. He obtained his M.S. degree in 1968 from Kent State University in Rehabilitation Counseling, and his B.S. degree in . 1965 from Ohio State Universtiy in Physical Therapy. Dr. Flack was born 31 years ago in Zanesville, Ohio, and new makes his home in Columbia Maryland. ! t Ii J.-'-:" EXAMINE PROBLEMS OF SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL-ft. William Mills of NCCU Points to the Durham reservoir from the city's water treatment plant. A class in environmental biology conducted by Mills examined the problems of solid waste disposal in Durham and discovered that Durham's treatment of 20 million gallons of water daily is complicated by the disposal of solid wastes, many capable of chemical breakdown, in landfill sites.
