South Carolina Vaults To Top In MEAC Race
South Carolina State
defeated arch-rivaU N.C. A&T
and North Carolina Central in a
pair of weekend home
conference games to vault to
the top of the conference
standings in the Mid-Eastern
Athletic Conference basketball
standings.
The Bulldogs, skippered by
second-year coach Tim Autry,
nipped A&T, 80-78 Friday
night and came back in the
second half Saturday night to
trip North Carolina Central,
81-76 to push their league
mark to 3-0. GeratTS.C. State,
picked to finish in the middle
of the seven-team league
standings in the pre-season
poll, stands 7-2, also the best
over-all mark in the MEAC.
The loss by A&T was the
first in league play for the
Aggies ijiinst three wins.
Overall A&T is 5-5 for the
season, jljif
North Carolina Central feU
to 1-3 in inference play and
4-6 . against' all opposition.
Delaware,,, State won a
non-conference game against
Lincoln j Wednesday night,
67-61 to up its mark to 4-2
overall. ,
Morgarj State, yet to play a
MEAC contest, suffered its
third loss against outside
competition as compared to six
victories ' when ;. the Bears .
dropped a ' 95-85 decision to
Brockport State Saturdanight.
. '. Howard jumped off to art '
early 8-0 lead against North
Carolina at Chapel Hill
Saturday night but the superior
rebounding strength for the
Tarheels proved too much as
the Bison feU, 109-67.
Maryland-Eastern Shore was
defeated by Upsala College
Friday night, 92-82. Donald
Gray scored 24 points for:
UMES which now stands 2-10.

a pair. Morgan plays at
Maryland-Eastern Shore
