Nancy Gillespie To Go To fora DURHAM - Mrs. Nancy Gillespie, director of the North Carolina Central University Art Museum, has resigned that position to become director of two galleries at Iowa State University. Mrs. Gillespie will be director of Iowa State University's Design Center Gallery and Brunnier Gallery. She will leave Durham Saturday, December 13, to move to Ames, Iowa. The Brunnier Gallery houses Iowa State's Brunner Collection, an early gift to the Iowa State University Foundation's campaign for the establishment of the Iowa State Center. Henry J. Brunnier, a graduate of Iowa State, was a president of Rotary Internation. His collection, on permanent display in the gallery, includes Han Dynasty (Chinese) ceramics, Japanese porcelains, as well as Tiffany and Art Nouveau pieces. The Design Center Gallery displays student works as well as materials related to the university's programs in design. Both galleries feature traveling exhibitions throughout the year. Mrs. Gillespie came to NCCU in 1969 as an Instructor in art. She became acting chairman of the department of art in 1971, and in 1973 was named director of the NCCU Museum. She also formed and chaired the museum's first Board of Directors. In addition to her teaching and administrative responsibilities at NCCU, Mrs. Gillespie has been active in community and civic affairs. She helped coordinate the Pan Africa Art Exhibit in 1971, served as co-director for the Art Festival held in conjunction with the U. S. A. - USA-Pan-Africa-West Germany meet. She has twice served as a judge for the Governor's School of North Carolina, has participated in many shows at such public institutions as the School of Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill and the North Carolina State Museum at Raleigh. She displayed her works in a one-woman show in Chapel Hill last year. Mrs. Gillespie produced an annual membership banquet program for the Durham Chamber of Commerce in February of this year. She holds a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and did post-graduate study at Harvard University in an institute for arts administrators. Fisheri executive United State Army; Dr. Ted director of the National Medical Roberson of the University of Association, was the keynote North Carolina , School of speaker for a workshop last week which is designed to encourage high school students to plan health careers. ' Fisher, a graduate of North Carolina Central University spoke to more than 250 students from 18 counties at the Alfonso Elder Student Union at NCCU. The workshop is sponsored by the Regional Office of the North Carolina Health Manpower Development Program. The Regional Office, at North Carolina Central, 'is directed by Mrs. Adele B. Butts. Mrs. Butts Invited school superintendents, principals, and guidance counselors from 18 neighboring counties to bring their students to the workshop. Other participants in the program included : Dr. Walter Pattillo, Jr., of NCCU: Dr. Albert N. Whiting of NCCU; Dr. S. Lavonia Allison of the North Carolina Health Manpower Development Program; Pernell S. Brice of the National Alliance of Businessmen; Dr. Marlon Phillips, of the University of North Carolina.
