marked a major effort in

known as Liberation and
Unity, which will be used
by the three in the 1976
Lenten celebration.
The booklet was
prepared by leaders of the
three denominations and
contains meditations that
will be used from Ash
Wednesday, March 3, to
Easter Sunday, April 18.
This means that the three
will observe the season the
same way. Black Theology
as it relates to the period,
1969-75, by the
Theological Commission
of the National
Conference of ulack
Christians, is treated by
Dr. J. Deotis Roberts,
Professor of Theology and
editor of the Journal of
Religious Thought,
Howard University's
School of Religion. Dr. J.
H. Satterwhite, associate
general secretary,
Consultation on Church
Union, joined in the
preparation of the.
booklet.
It was produced by the
management and staff of
the C. M. E. Publishing
House, Memphis, Term;,
under the supervision of
Dr. M. C. Pettigrew. It is

Well anybody knows that1 A church
is a building where people 90 to
worship1" But this is not correct.
The word translated church" in
our Bibles Simply means assenJ)ly
so a church is not a building but

'"the building. And a church is not
necessarily a gathering of worship

ered at Ephesus in Paul's day is

Acts 19:32. and tins passage states
that this assembly or church was
confused and most of them did
not know wherefore they were come
togellM't." So a church is simply an
assembly not a building.
The church of which the Bible
has most to say is "the Church of
God which He hath purchased with
His own blood" (Acts 20:28). St.
Paul calls this church, again and
again "the Body of Christ." or
"the Church which is His Body. "
We do not join this Church by
water baptism or any other religious
rite vve Oin it by faith in the Lord
Jesus Christ Referring to believers
in Christ Paul declares: "By one
Spirit are we all baptized into one
Bixly " il Cor. 12:13). and in Rom.
12:5 he says "Ye being many are
one Body in Clrist. "

SALISBURY - MISS LIVINGSTONIAN - Audrey Vanessa Bell,
a 20-year-old sophomore elementary education major at
Livingstone College, Salisbury, has been chosen 'Miss
Livingstonian, the college yearbook, for the academic year 1975
76. A 1974 graduate of Jamesville High School, Audrey is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Noah E. Bell of Rt. 1, Williarrston. She
is the oldest of five younsters born of this union. An active
Saggitarius, Audrey is a member of the yearbook staff, the pep
club, and the campus chapter of the Student National Education
Association. Her hobbies include active participation in sports,
tewing and dancing.

Mrs. Bullock ' was the

Mrs. Roxie Pulley Whitt and was
born in Person County. After
moving , to Durham, she was
married to the late Thomas
McCoy Bullock. She had lived in
Durham for more than
thirty-five years during which
time she worked at Duke
University.1 She was an active
