SAT., JANUARY 31. 1976. THE CAROLINA TIMES - 17 WRITERS FORU M An air of electrified expectancy filled the sanctuary as folk filed in and sat quietly awaiting the opening of the Tuesday evening salute to Dr. Grady D. Davis. appeHation'A Little Man with a big Spirit" Hii; message for the evening, was based on the text: Titus 1 :4. Subject, 4 Set in Order the things that out of Order, See Jesus." A straight forward, no punches barred message directed to concerned Christians in a world where values shift according to the price offered; thus, Christians are confronted with disorders on every hand; in the home, the church, in, the schools where sins of every denomination are committed in high and low places. ; and sickness, Dr. Davis is j one of the first to visit ; these persons bringing good-cheer and helpfulness. Our pastor's day begins early and last far into the night. Often times, after he leaves his day by day job, he visits some sick brother or sister REV. W. E. The first lady of the Baptist Missionary diadem deftly glided the devotional aspect of the assembly into the midstream of evangelism The Amey Jubilee Singers gave support to the M-Cee's leaning and sang to the glory of God, stirring the audience into a joyous mood. The appreciation service climaxed with a lively Healing Service conducted by the Rev. Lawerence Turner, assisted by his lovely wife, Mrs. Turner; Dr. Grady Davis, Rev. Essex Fields, Rev. Foster R. Ize, and Rev. N. B. Sanders. On Wednesday, Jan. 7 it rained, a cold, drenching rain. The night before, Dr. Davis had expressed great joy in the fact that he was being honored with a 1 2th anniversary salute; this is a brand new experience for me; I have been made happy beyond words to describe my great joy. And if this were the only night of this anniversary, I would be satisfied, happy for all the nice things I have heard said about me.' From the sound of the spattering rain, "The Little Man with a Big Spirit" wouldn't be enjoying a grand finale of his anniversary salute. So, with much ''egg on my face" I moved hurriedly toward the church to make the best of an unfortunate situation. My arrival at the church was greeted by an overwhelming surprise; the wonderful people had weathered the storm to put in an appearance. The Sunday School faculty, many of its students, superintendent Charles Cameron; Rev. W. E. by George B, Daye, Pastor of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, A Male Chorus, Young Adult Choir and the PMB Senior Choir. Miss Ava Darlene Best presided over the 3rd night of the 8-day salute. Ava captured the favor of tonights audience with her youthful exuberance, talent and graciousness. Her opening remarks were set to prose by the budding poet;' The Story of Grady Davis" "There is a many named Grady D. who ministers a church known as UBC. in this church he MISS ANNIE DUNNIGAN had has a lot ,of power That's why this week he's our man of the hour. In his heart and mind he stands very tall but to most his height is considerably small.. Like Ullyses S. Grand and Robert E. Lee he helped fight the battles of the nation - and UBC. He fought the battles with determination and might, just like J. J., he's our "Kid Dynamite." He has 'Russ just done so much at UBC, everyone has learned to rely on Grady D. His lion's voice roars all thru the church, bringing to us the truth of God's holy words. Now all that I've said has been the truth and fun, Union Baptist Church we've only just begun. ' Keep on Truckin" Grady Dee, I'm dedicating this poem to thee: Friendship is a priceless gift that can't be bought or sold: But to have an understanding friend is worth More than gold; and the golden chain of friendship is a strong and blessed tie; Binding kindred hearts together as the years go by." "My Profile of Dr. Grady D. Davis" was executed by Charles Cameron. His portrait was based on the pastor's leadership as a Civil Rights Worker; his great courage in facing up to the dilemmas of our youth during the '60's while carrying on the oftentime explosive demonstrations; '"Dr. Davis was a great inspiration to our young people; his great courage, bold approach to the problem at hand was encouragement for our young leaders to continue the work of the Civil Rights Movement here in the city, state and nation. Dr. Davis was a family man, an instructor at Shaw University but he kep the faith in God and faith in what our young people were doing and hung right in there at the risk of limb and life. He is truly a God sent man for young people." WO MINUTES VHH THE BIBLE Y CORNELIUS . ITAM PRES. MEAN Hill SOCIETY CHICAGO, IUINOIS 06 GOD NO RESPECTER OF PERSONS In Romans 2:11 we read that "there is no respect of persons with God," and these very words, with slight variations, are found many times in the Bible. How wonderful! No "big shots" with Him! Rather all stand on the same footing before His bar of justice. Do you know why the kings in Israel's history were - and were meant to be - so rich? This was so that they might rule with true justice, beholden only to God. The rich could not-bribe the king, nor could the powerful intimidate him, for he was far richer and mas powerful than they. There was only one person over the king - spiritually; the prophet, who kept reminding him of the Word and the claims of God. Well, God is infinitely richer than all the wealthy rulers, barons and magnates of this world put together, thus there is "no respect of persons with Him. " But now a question: If God is no respecter of persons, why did ' He favor one nation, Israel, above ell the rest and for many centu ries bless them above all others? The answer: God made a dif ference to show that "there is no difference" (Rom. 3:22,23). He made an artificial difference, a dispensations! d if f e re nc e , to show that there was no essential difference, no moral difference. He erected a "middle wall of partition between us" to show that that wall must be broken down (Eph. 2:14-16). And thus it is that the same God who once said to Israel: "Ye are the children of the proph ets, and of the covenant. ...Unto you first..." (Acts 3:25,26) -this same God now says: "There is no difference be tween the Jew and the Greek (Gentile), for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. "For WHOSOEVER shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Rom. 10:12,13).
