Cowboy Visit
Two cowboys were visiting the
big city for the first time. After a

Poor Mom
A rancher's horse kicked his
mother-in-law to death. A large
crowd turned out for the funeral.
"This lady must have been
mighty popular for so many
people to take off work and come
to her funeral," the minister in
toned. "They're not here for the
funeral," the rancher said.
"These people are here to buy the
horse!"
THIS WEEK'S LETTER: I'm
19 and my boyfriend is 20. We
care a great deal for each other.
The problem is that my parents
don't think he is good enough for
me. Some people in our small
community have spoken to my
parents about him because he got
in a little trouble at school. I feel
that's in the past. My parents
make me feel guilty when I go out
with him, as though I were stab
bing them in the back. I try to
communicate my feelings to
them but they think I am too
young to decide what is the best
thing to do. It seems to come
down to a choice between my
parents or my boyfriend. How
can I get them to see my point of
view?
OUR REPLY: Most people
have one point of view their
own. Your parents don't make
you feel guilty, you're making
yourself feel guilty. And, there is
really no such thing as "try."
You either communicate your
feelings or you don't. It's black
and white, one or the other. Sorry
to sound hard-nosed, as we do ap
preciate your problem. The point
is, if it comes down to a choice
between your parents or your
boyfriend, at 19 perhaps it's time
you make the choice. If you're
not willing to do that, then it's
probably best to continue to
follow the advice of your parents.
If you are prepared to make a
choice, make it and welcome to
the great big beautiful world of
adulthood.
