She is a former resident of Fay ctteville, and an honor grad uate of E. E. Smith High School and Duke University. Fayettcville is proud of its Shaw graduates, especially congratulations to Willie Simmons and Ernie Holston. Miss Jocelyn LaRue Simpson has received her de gree from N. C. A&T State University in Greensboro. Celebration "76" a bicentennial salute to America through dance, was presented by the Dorothy Davis School of Dance Sunday past, at the Cumber land County Memorial Auditorium at-3 p.m. The Girl Scout Olympics was held last Saturday at Massey Hill Jr. High Athletic Field where over 1000 Girl Scouts of all ages participated , , ,.. . " The Cumberland County honored three school admin istrators for their work in county schools this year. William Marable, assistant principal at Pine Forest Senior High was named the assistant principal of the year. Young W. Howard was named elementary principal of the year and Kenneth Edge was named secondary principal of the year. Fayctteville was one of the top 10 cities in the 35,000 to 100,000 popula tion bracket which was cited for improvement and beauti fication. The Fayettcville Lady Lions met recently and pr presented a very interesting Fashion Show. They pre sented their new officers for the coming year. Dr. J. J. Johnson, presi dent of the General Baptist State Convention, of North Carolina, spoke at the Falling Run Missionary Baptist Church Sunday, at 4 p.m. under the sponsorship of the Sunshine Band. The public is invited to a joint laymen's semi-revival which is under the sponsor ship of the Union Baptist Association and the Brother hood of New South River Association this week. Service will be held nightfy at 7:30 to ') p.m. Different speakers will be featured each night. My family and I enjoyed our neighbors Clarence and Nurse Mildred Frye Sunday evening. Mrs. Annette Billie has received her Ph. D. degree from the University of Pitts burgh, Pa. Dr. Billie is a Fay etteville State University mathematics instructor. Mrs, Thelma H. Kinney attended the graduation of her niece Odell Elizabeth Hodges from James Kenan High School in Kenansville last Friday. Elliott Women's Building Auditorium. Evans earned his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering at Tennessee State and the master's in engineering at Princeton Univeristy.
