The North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers, meeting in their Annual Convention in Wrightsville Beach, NC, June 23 adopted a resolu tion critical of US District -Court Judge Frankin Dupree's ruling denying a new trial for the Wilm ington 10. The lawyer's Tesolution, adopte un namiously, stated that Vour reasonable expection that true justice" would prevail has once again been denied by , Dupree's ruling. The lawyers conclude that "a legal and ethical analysis of the case man dates" that the convic ' tions be overturned. The resolution states that the lawyers see a lack of courage" Vil-10 Ruling sometimes masquerading as the judicial process. The lawyers again call for action by the state and federal executives "to ex ercise their authority to eradicate this injustice" by issuing pardons of in nocence to the 10 and all persons similarly situated, especially' the Charlotte Three. In other business, At torney Curtis 0. Harris, of Gastonia was named "Lawyer of The Year , the organization's .highest award. Harris is the first black public defender in North Carolina.
