Film Clips UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUL !innnnnnnnnnnnnnr! The Muppets come alive by Chuck Bint In their first film venture, Jim Henson's Muppets en liven the silver screen with all the wit, charm and enchantment that have made the names of Kermit the Frog and Mjss Piggy world famous. .Unlike their weekly TV series, 'The Muppet Show,' the film has some -lively special effects and the added dimension of plot. Kermit the Frog Is lured away from his niche in the Georgia swamp by a Holly wood agent (Dom Oeluise) who tempts him with the prospects of tinseltown stardom. On his cross-country trek to the footlights, Kermit meets Fozzie the Bear, the Great Gonzo, Dr. Teeth and the electric Mayhem, and a handful of other human and Muppet characters. In a stop at the county fair, Kermit comes eye-to-eye with Miss Piggy as she is crowned the - new beauty queen. That lingering first glance expands to a full length fantasy-romance sequence straight out of a Clairol commercial. It is, as they say, love at first sight. Aboard Fpzzie's 1951 Studebaker with the Mup pet clan, Kermit is hounded by Doc Hopper (Charles Durning) and his wily assis tant (Austin Pendleton) who want Kermit to sponsor TV commercials for Hopper's new chain of French Fried Frog Legs fast-food fran chises. A plethdra of big-name stars make brief, though colorful, appearances in cluding: El Sleazo cafe owner (James Coburn), tough guy (Telly Savalasjr, barroom broads (Madeline Kahn and Carol Kane), piano player (Paul Wil liams), used car salesman (Milton Berle), beauty con test emcee (Elliott Gould), ice cream vendor (Bob Hope), balloon salesman (Richard Pryor), ven triloquist (the late Edgar Bergen), surly waiter (Steve Martin), allergic secretary (Cloris Leachman), movie producer (Orson Welles), and mad scientist (Mel Brooks) who threatens to turn the frog's brains into guacomole. Playing between the real world' of hard knocks and the sugar-coated world of fantasy, the film features the Muppets watching their own private screening of 'The Muppet Movie.' To add to the fun, a bigger-than-life cream pie springs from a billboard, Miss , Piggy executes some well-placed karate chops and Kermit the Frog rides a bicycle. While the movie, for the most part, maintains a moderate to fast pace throughout, it is inter spersed with some down shifting songs that occa sionally stay in low gear a little too long. Rated G, this Sir Lew Grade AFD feature supplies the kind of entertainment that will tickle everyone from age 6 to 66. TV COMFUUM SERVICE , INC. Con cerned citizens and corpora tions don't think so. P--:; V,' :r 8 if Threats to the eagle's sur vival are created by man. Despite the fact that eagles have been under federal pro tection for the past 40 years, thousands of them have been killed by irresponsible hunters, contaminated waters from which the eagle gets its food, and, industrialization, which has deprived the eagle of its home, As a public service, Eagle Rare Bourbon has undertaken a preservation program of the bald eagle, which is today listed among the "threatened and endangered species." There are several things we all can do to. save the eagle, according to the marketers of Eagle Rare Bourbon. If you find an eagle nest, don't disturb it, but do report its location to your local game warden, forest ranger ' or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Office. The nesting site you found can be moni tored and maintained; nesting surveys are crucial to eagle preservation. If you see an injured eagle, report it to your local conservation officers immedi ately. Within hours, special ized treatment and attention will be administered. Volunteer your time or a contribution to support the survival of the eagle. Local wildlife organizations can really use your help.
