THE EVER READY CLUB HOLDS ITS MONTHLY
MEETING'
The monthly meeting of the JSver Ready Club was
held at the home of Mrs. Josephine C. Harris. The
meeting was opened by the president, Mrs. Esther
Moore. After the close of the business session, we were
served a delicious repast.
Those attending were: MmesiL Clara Taylor, Tessie
Cross, Esther Moore, Reowa Barbee, Hazel McClain,
Beatrice Edgerton, Edna Roystef, Bessie Jones, Felecia
Revels, Louise Lee, Dorothy Holloway, Mary Patter
son, Josephine Harris, Esther Moore, Shirley Holloway
and Lear Lee. The next meeting will be held at ,Mrs.
Mary Patterson's home at 3 p.m.
THE FRIENDLY LADIES CELEBRATE
CHRISTMAS
The Friendly Ladies met Sunday, December 2, at the
home of Mrs. Mattie Tillman for their annual
Christmas' party. Mrs. Betty-Green and Mrs. Margie
Bullard were co-hostess. After trie devotion, there was a
short business session with Mrs. :Hastie Price presiding.
Mrs. Agnes Hinton presided over the devotional session
which included the singingof Christmas carols, a talk
by Mrs. Minnie Petty explaining "Why We Have
Christmas" and a moment of silent prayer in memory
of Mrs. Eva Lyons.
There were 27 members and thirteen guests present.
The hostess served a delightful repast whicn was en
joyed by all, afterwhich, secret pals were revealed. Each
guest received a gift also. The n&xt meeting w ill be at the
home of the Satterfields on Moline Street. Merry
Christmas everyone!

The second Durham Academy of Medicine, Dentistry
and Pharmacy meeting of the 1979-80 year was held at
the Downtowner Motor Inn on Wednesday, November'.

' Mrs. Patricia C. Ramsey, MSW gave a fifteen minute
statement of services offered and problems addeed by
the Therapeutic Alliance utilizing the Rational-Emotive
approach.
Mr. William Henry McLaughlin, Jr., B.S. in Phar
macy displayed and discussed convalescent care pro
ducts available at the McLaughlin Medical Arts Phar
macy. The following members and guests were present : Drs.

MRS CARRAWAY CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY
Mrs. Edna Carraway celebrated her Eightieth Birth
day on December 5. She attends Zion Wall Baptist
Church every Sunday and is the oldest mother in the
church.

The Lamplighters held their annual Christinas partv
Saturday, December 1, in the new building in the C.R.
Wood Park with approximately fifty people attending.
The program committee consisted of Ms. Hester
Brown, Chairman, Ms. Lillie Owens and Ms. Ollie Ray.
Christmas songs were sung and games were played.
Mrs. Delia Hubbard was honored with an award for
service rendered to the Hayestown Community
Building. The C.R. Wood Building was built as a center
for interested civic organizations in the community to
hold their meetings. Mrs. Hubbard accepted the honor
with gratitude on behalf of each member of the club and
stressed the desire that each member strive to make the
community a better place to live. A scrumptous meal
was served. Christmas gifts were exchanged and secret
pals revealed. The social committee consisted of Ms.
Edna Royster, chairman, Mmes. Odessa Flake, Roberta
Allen, Louise Caple, Alma Mitchell, Hattie Evans, R.
Harris and Delia Hubbard. President is Mrs. Janet
Allen.

On Sunday, December 2 the Honey Dolls, parents
and sponsors met at the home of Soror Ruth Thomas
526 Cecil Street for the purpose to gear up their annual
pageant which will finalize on March 8, 1980.
The Honey Doll pageant is sponsored by the Alpha
Theta Chapter, Ela Phi Beta Sorority ItK. The purree
of the pageant is designed to ra'v: money in order that
we can better support out scholarship fund and! help ,
mentally regarded children. A doll clinic will be hckl
