MRS. LANDIS SPEAKER AT ROCK SPRING
Mrs. Mabel McCoy Landis was the Women's Day
.Service Speaker at Rock Spring Baptist Church, Creed
moor, Sunday, May 4. She is a member of Rock Spring
Baptist Church and a graduate of Durham Business
College. She is the daughter of Bishop and Mrs. S. O.
McCoy. Her subject was: mat role are you playing as
a true Christian missionary? Are You playing the role
of society, the role of a hypocrite or the role of a true
Christian Missionary?
EBENEZER OBSERVES MOTHER'S DAY
Ebenezer Baptist Church, 2200 South Alston Avenue,
will observe Mother's Day, Sunday, May 1 1 at 11 a.m.
The speaker for the occasion will be Mrs. Wanda J.
Garrett.
Mrs. Garrett is presently an instructor in Speech and
Oral Interpretation of Literature at North Carolina
Central University. She was formerly the producer and
hostess of WTVD's Black Unlimited.
Some of Mrs. Garrett's affiliations include: member
of White Rock Baptist Church, Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc., Jack & Jill of America, Links Incor
porated, NAACP, and a Governor's appointee to the
Board of Directors of the North Carolina Arts Society.
' She is married to Nathan Garrett and they have three
children.

BISHOP JONES TO CELEBRATE 27TH
ANNIVERSARY AT TRUE WAY
The members of True Way Hply Church, 1410 Gilette
St., will honor their pastor Bishop W. A. Jones on his
27th Anniversary, May 11 through May 18.
Bishop Jones is the founder and pastor of True Way
Holy Church, Durham, which consists of two hundred
members. He is also the Bishop of True Way Holy
Church, Apex; Rev. Lillian Osborne is the pastor.
Bishop Jones is also the founder and president of the
Holy Ministerial Alliance of Durham, consisting of 50
ministers. He is the founder of the Noon Day Prayer
that you hear each day at 11:50 a.m. over radio station
WSRC.
He is married to Mrs. Nina Jones, formerly of Apex.
They are the parents of three children, Willie Arthur
Jones, Jr., Frank Darrell Jones, and Ms. Tonya
Chevelle Jones. They have two step-children, Thomas
Byrd and Mrs. Jacqueline Scott; one adopted daughter,
Rev.Geanne Powell; and ten grandchildren.

MRS. CLEMENT TO SPEAK AT NORTHSIDE
Mrs. Josephine Cement, chairman, Durham City
Board of Education, will be the Women's Day Speaker
at Northside Baptist Church, 1239 Berkeley St., Sun
day, May 11 at 11a.m. Music will be furnished by the
Women's Day Choir and the Bethea Family.
Mrs. Clement, a native of Atlanta, Ga., is a graduate
of Spelman College with a B. S. degree. She received
the M. A. degree from Columbia University in New
York City. She has taught at several colleges including
North Carolina Central University.
She is active in community affairs, such as the PTA,
Girl and Boy Scouts, Durham County Library, Negro
Braille Magazine, North Carolina Symphony, Durham
Committee on the Affairs of Black People.
In 1973 she was appointed to the Durham City Board
of Education by the City Council. In 1975 she was
elected to the board and in 1979 she was re-elected for
another term. She has served as chairman of the board
since December, 1978.
Mrs. Clement is married to William A. Clement,
retired Executive Vice-President of North Carolina
Mutual Life Insurance Company, and presently acting
Grand Master of the Prince Hall Masons of North
Carolina. They are the parents of six children. She is a
member of White Rock Baptist Church
NEWS OF BIBLE WAY
Women's Day Service will begin Friday, May 9. Part
II will be Sunday. The guests will be Mrs. Doris Barbor
and Mrs. Gilchrist.
On Saturday, May 10 Bishop John Russell, Jr. and
the congregation will close out Elder Allen's Youth
Conference.
On Sunday, May 1 1 at 3 p.m., Bible Way will appear
on an Appreciation Service at The Whole Truth
Apostolic Church.
The Noon Day Prayer is held at 12 noon from
Wednesday through Friday.
Regular Bible Teachings are held each Tuesday night
at 7:30 p.m.
Tarry Service is held each Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Bishop John Russell, Jr. is the pastor of Bible Way.

Day Service, Sunday, May 11 at 11 a.m. The guest
speaker will be Ms. Wandra Hill or Raleigh.
APPRECIATION SERVICE FOR REV. GIBSON
, An Appreciation Service was given Rev. W. J. Gib
son, pastor, Welcome Chapel Missionary Baptist
Church, Henderson, Sunday, May 4, honoring five
years of pastoral work. Rev. Eugene Fields was the
guest speaker. He was accompanied by his choirs from
St. James Baptist Church, Henderson and Micheal
Creek Baptist Church, Stovall.
Mrs. Susie Mcknight gave a special contributory
recitation; Mrs. Mary Ruth Cousin a special solo.
Other participants were Otis Gill, President, Middle
Baptist, Minister, Deacon and Church Union; Rev.
Moses Fletcher, pastor, Cain's Chapel Church, Durham
and Hardie Grove Church, Oxford; Rev. Lynn
Baldwin, pastor, Cook's Chapel Church, Henderson;
Mr. and Mrs. Amos Lunsford; Mr. and Joe Bouie; and
Mr. Hawkins of Kittrell.
Special gifts were presented including a beautiful pla
que presented by the Young Adult Music Department.
