After completing basic
training at Lackland AFB,
San Antonio, Texas, he
graduated from the Air
Force Aviontics Space
Ground Equipment course
at Lowery AFB, Denver,
Colorado.
Later this month. Air
man Ruffin will be tem
porarily assigned to Hor
ton AFB, California.

School and entered the Air
Force in November.
He is the grandson of
Mrs. Rosa Daniel and

Jarvis Announces Fall
Semester Schedule

Orientation for Freshmen
and New Students at Jar
vis Christian College will
be held Monday through
Friday, August 25-29.
The Orientation Period
will be used for testing ad
visement and pre
registration clearances for
the students enrolling for
the 69th Academic Year of
the College. Residence
halls of Jarvis will open on
Saturday, August 23. The
College has designated
Sunday, August 24 as
"Parents' Day." Special
events are being planned
for all parents who will be
visiting the Jarvis campus
that day.
Registration at Jarvis
will be held on Tuesday,
September 2. Classes and
late registration will begin
on September 3. Late
registration will end on
Friday, September 5.

New Bridge Will Support
All Legal Loads
RALEIGH The Divi
sion of Highways of the
North Carolina Depart:
ment of Transportation
(NCDOT) has closed a
bridge on Hope Valley
Road (NC-751) in
Durham County for ten
weeks, according to Divi
sion Engineer C.C.
painter. . ,
, The bridge located ap
proximately 1 .4 miles
north of the intersection
of NC-54 and Hope Valley
Road, will reopen in
September.
The temporary closing
will allow NCDOT
maintenance crews to
rebuild the bridge which is
posted for a single vehicle
weight of nineteen tons,
25 tons for truck tractor
semi-trailer. When com
pleted the new bridge will
be able to support all legal
loads.
Traffic will be detoured
on Garrett Road
(Secondary Road 1116)
and Old Chapel Hill Road
(Secondary Road 2220).

highway improvement
project as soon as possible
to minimize any inconve
nience to the traveling
public.
