Members of Zeia Phi Beta Sorority held iheir regular
monthly meeting at Emily's Restaurant Saturday after
noon. Soror G.T. Hollingsworth presided.
Mrs. Mae Rudd Williams, a former supervisor in the
Cumberland County Schools, members of her family,
other relatives, special guests and friends gathered Sun
day afternoon at the school which has been named and
dedicated to her. Open house and a reception were held.
The school is now the Mae Rudd Williams School
(formerly Manchester). Dr. Brill and Dr. C.R. Edwards
participated in the ceremony.
Mrs. Georgia M. Turner of Lumberton, president of
the Woman's Baptist Home and Foreign Missionary
Convention of North Carolina spoke at the annual
Woman's Day celebration at Second Baptist Church on
Sunday afternoon.
A Clarkton native, Mrs. Turner is a graduate of Shaw
University in Raleigh. She is employed by Lumberton
City Schools and is the wife of the Rev. E.B. Turner.
Holy Temple Bible Church of God celebrated the
25th anniversary of its pastor, Bishop R.L. Garner on
Sunday. Speakers during the celebration included
Bishop N.J. Sellars, Elder McEachern, Bishop G.W.
Winston, Rev. Purdie Elliott and Elderess Maggie Buie.
' The Christian Fellowship monthly luncheon was en
joyed recently at the Main N.C.O Club, Fort Bragg.
The Peanut-Butter-For-Lunch Bunch enjoy games,
movies, story telling sports, trips, arts and crafts, new
games, peanut butter sandwiches and juice on Saturdays
from 9 a.m.-noon. Call 396-1278.

The Greater Victory Temple Pentecostal Church of
Deliverance observed the eighth anniversary of Eldress
Euniceleen M. Roper, pastor, during the week past. The
church has grown and recently purchased a new sanc
tuary in the Robin Heights community. Services began
at 4 p.m. and were held throughout the week. Special
speakers included Bishop O.L. Conyers, Eldress B.
McGregor, Elder Bain, Bishop Jackson, Eldress Adkin
son, Elder Whilted, Eldress Love, Eldress J. Brown
Elder Kendall and Pastor B.L. Kelley.
The sixth anniversary of Elder William Townsend,
pastor of Guiding Star Holy Church, was observed dur
ing the week past. Services were held nightly.
The Gospel Choir of John Wesley United Methodist
Church celebrated its eightenth anniversary Saturday
and Sunday past. Several choirs participated.
Parks Chapel Evangelistic Team conducted a four
'day revival crusade September 15-18 at St. John
Freewill Baptist Church.
Senior Ushers of St. Luke AME Church celebrated
their anniversary Sunday afternoon.

The Fayetteville-Cumberland County Ministerial
Association began its New Year with a meeting
September 16 at Southeastern Regional Rehabilitation
Center behind Cape Fear Valley Hospital. The program
included a presentation of an evangelistic outdoor
advertising campaign and a proposal for a special ,
religious section in a shopping guide.
Members of Carolina, Edifice, Johnston County, La
Madrinna, Les Palantes Skyway and Triangle Cities
Toastmistress Clubs gathered at the Downtown Motor
Inn in Durham for a meeting on Saturday. All members
learned, feasted, were interviewed and entertained.
Workshops were conducted. Guests were recognized.
Mrs. N. McLean enjoyed an exciting visit and stay for
a week in Columbus, Ohio. She reported that she also (
attended some workshops, enjoyed a tour of the city's
historical sites and shopping. 1
Sympathy is extended to the family of the late James
H. Evans of 1912 Armstrong Street; the late Willie S.
McKoy, formerly of Fayetteville, more recently of New ;
York; and the late Mrs. Beulah Adams, of 1001 Davis
Court.
The sands of Mt Sinai are said to be "singing s4hdi"

quet during September. This year, Ms. McAllister says

Mrs. E. Young recently completed a tour of South
America along with some friends.' Joy beams on her
face as she relates the details of her tour.
Mrs. Jeannette Council, a supervisor with the Fayet-,
teville City School System, was among some 200 women
in Washington, D.C., during the past week for a
strategy session on the President's re-election campaign.
First Lady Rosalynn Carter welcomed the group at a
late afternoon reception. Mrs. - Council belongs to
numerous organizations. She was a delegate to the 1978
Democratic mini-convention in Memphis, Tennessee.
The Fayetteville Observer carried an interesting arti-,
cle about Sickle Cell Anemia. Ms. Glenda Harris, presi
dent of the South Central Area Bennett College Alum
nae Chapter, works full time as a medical technologist
at Veteran's Hospital here. She is also president of the
Parent Sickle Cell Club. Mrs. Mary McAllister is a
member of the National Association of Sickle Cell

William Blackwell.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Willie E. Currie in
the loss of his mother who was funeralized on last Fri
day. ' The Fayetfeville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority sponsored a program for senior citizens
Sunday afternoon at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. The pro
gram was entitled "The Jubilant Years, A Time For
Living," and was designed for the purpose of brighten
ing up the lives of older adults. Dr. William Bell was the
speaker. A reception was held afterward in the church
fellowship hall.
Delta Sigma Theta is a public service organization
dedicated to a program of sharing membership skills ;
and organizational services in the public interest.
Dr. Charles Lyons Jr., chancellor of Fayetteville
. State University was the guest speaker for the Prince
Hall Free and Accepted Masons annual prince Hall
American Day Assembly, Sunday afternoon, at St.
Luke AME Church.
The E.E. Smith High School Bus Drivers Association
held a car wash on Saturday.
Happy Birthday Anniversary to Mrs. V.V. Holley,
Mrs. D. Kinney, Ms. Petca Smith, Mrs. Ruth Pelchort,
Ms. B. Simmons and William A. Hodges, from relatives
and friends.
Happy 25th Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie
Darden while they celebrate this week with relatives and
friends.
A workshop for all school volunteers in Cumberland
County and Fayetteville City Schools was held
September 18 at Synder Memorial on Westmont Drive.
. Sessions were held on school law, psychology and the
learning process, business machines, pre-kindergarten
aide, leadership skills math; tutor, elementary and secon
dary reading tutors, library assistant, and visual aids.
There were also sessions on Indian culture, bi-lingual
tutoring, physical education aide, behavior adjustment
centers for exceptional children, competency testing and
science.

Many enjoyed the theater production, "St. Mark's
Gospel" performed by Shakesperean actor Michael
Tolaydo, a solo performer from England, at Reeves
Auditorium, Methodist College, Sunday evening.

The Kinneys enjoyed the company of Herbert Hodges
Jr. of Warsaw during the weekend.
The thirteenth Annual Ceramic Show sponsored by
Fayetteville Recreation and Parks and Cape Fear Valley
Ceramic Guild Inc., will be held September 26-28 at the
National Guard Armory.
Many are preparing to attend the Third Annual

Groups are getting ready for deep sea fishing trip at
the Carolina Beach. , '
