On Saturday. March 21. member Pi Chapter, Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc., inducted
two new sorors into their sisterhood. They are Sorors Jackie Howell (second from
right), quality assurance nurse, VA Medical Center, Durham; and Betty Reed (second
from left), infection control nurse, John Umstead Hospital, Butner. At left is Dean of

"In Appreciation" was observed for Ms. Brenda
Lydei organist and Ms. Hortense Merritt Jones, pianist,
at First Calvary Baptist Church Satur4ay, March 14.
The honorees have rendered loyal service since 18.
Presiding was Ms. Hazel Douglas. Other participants
were Ms, Fannie Harris, Ms. Arnette Merritt, Ms.
Josephine Hayes and William Carnigan, A tribute was
offered by Ms Diane Green, MU Springs, Ms. Sonya

Chancel Choir; Carl Merritt, Male Choir; Ms. Willie
McCuller, Gospel Choir and Ms. Yvonne Merritt ,

The honorees received, lots of gifts and each her
favorite cake given by Mrs. Quinnie Jacobs. They were
also given a beautiful floral design (money tree), given
by all the choirs and presented by Mrs. Mary Rice. Mrs.
Thelma Cates, an employee at Lincoln Community
Health Center.'presented Mrs. Jones a gift from her co
workers at the LCHC Pharmacy, . ,
Out of town guests for the occasion were Mrs. Mane
' Shaw Simmons, Takoma Park, Md.; Mrs, Jewel Merritt
Best from Maryland, and Mrs. Nanette Merritt Smith of
Raleigh, sisters of Mrs. Jones; and Mrs. Joanne Lyde
Harris of Fayetteville, sister of Ms. Lyde.
Remarks were made by the honorees and the pastor,
Rev. V.S. Thompson. Dinner was served.
" Visiting relatives aftd sisters, Mrs. Lillie Johnson and
Mrs. Estelle Cozart, are Mrs. Lizzie H. Bass of Long
Island, NY, Mrs. Libby Lewis and daughter, Cheryle
and their friend, Janice, all of Lorain, Ohio.

Mrs. Norma Alyce B. Anderson of Hampton,
Virginia recently spent a few days with her parents, Mr,

Forty-two students
from The Chapel Hill
Senior High School and
Oranee Hieh School in
Hillsborough .were recent
State University in
Greensboro. The excur
sion was sponsored by the
Orange County Chapter,
of the A&T Alumni
Association.
Upon arrival on the
campus, the director of
admissions welcomed the
group and gave an over
view of the activities plan
ned for the day. In small
groups, led by A&T
University' , student tour
guides, the students took a
walking tour of the cam
pus. The morning activities
ended with a tour of the
African Heritage Center
on the campus and lunch.
Deans of the schools of
Business and Economics,
Agriculture, Arts and
Sciences, Nursing, and
Engineering discussed and,
answered questions about
programs offered in each
school, admission re-
quirements, and financial
and employment oppor
tunities. I
Two honor students in
the School of Business! and
Economics shared infor
mation about student
organizations and employ
ment opportunities in
their departments.
Information about
financial aid, housing,
and admission re
quirements, presented by
Dean Gamble, director of
admissions,' culminated
the afternoon sessions.
Following the afternoon
sessions, some students
visited the dorms and talk
ed with A&T students
while others viewed a
series of one-act plays
dealing . with black
heritage in the Paul
Robeson Theater located
on the campus.
Dinner and shopping at
the Four Seasons Mall en
sued. In the evening, free
basketball tickets donated
by the A&T Athletic
Department allowed the
students and their
chaperons to see the last
home game of the season.

Hill coordinated the trip.
