Former U.S. Ambassador
to Algeria Ulric Haynes has
been named to the board of
ABC. Haynes, a vice president
of Cummins Engine Co. of
Columbus, Indiana recently
spoke before The Media
Forum in Hollywood where he
charged that blacks have been
manipulated by the media into
ignoring world affairs and
resegregating themselves. He
said the media and advertisers
have led blacks to concentrate
on the "cosmetics" of black
heritase. not on its current in
ternational significance and asking it to

to lead the race to a concern
for world affairs. Haynes,
played a significant role in
negotiating the release of the
hostages from Iran.
The Top 10 for the 1980-81
TV season, as compiled by
CBS shows "The Jeffersons"
in No. 7 position. Last week's
Neilson rating had the show in
No. 5 position. And the
spinoff from the series,
"Checking In," , starring
Maria (Florence the maid) will
be shown as a four-week sum
mer replacement which, if it
catches on, will go into the fall
schedule.
