' . - All members born between July and December were honorees. Uponarrival, each was given a beautifully decorated -birthday hat-lapel pin designed by Mrs. Celestia. Sanders. , i- x Mrs. Artelia Perry, outgoing president, presided over .a brief business session. During this time, Mrs. Helen Jones, Mrs. Earle Moseley and Mrs. Celestia Sanders i gave highlights of the; State Ministers' Wives and' Widows Association meeting they had attended in . Elizabeth Oty, June 21-23. Mrs.AnmeL.Dayewhouecently returned- from 1 Presents Ebonettes Scholarship Mrs. Bernadette Watts president of the Ebonettes Service Club, presents a $500 scholarship to HHIside High School honor graduate Miss Awaaya Dawson at the club's June meetine. She is the daughter of Mrs. Ola nawsnn nf pKHarvmui Drive, Durham. The award is to be applied toward the cost of four vears of undergraduate work at any recognized U.S. college or university selected by the reci pient. Miss Dawson will enter North Carolina Central University this fall. She plans to major in mathematics. Winston-Salem, was welcomed back to the nreani7atinn with a.token of love presented by Mrs. Helen Jones while Mrs.. J.W. Barnes joined the group and was welcomed as a new member; Amidst a setting of beautiful floral arrangements, a delicious buffet dinner climaxed the final meeting of the summer. Meetings will-resume , September 26 at the home of Mrs. Annie Daye on Atfgier Ayenue. Mrs. Esther High will be installed as president for 1981-83. Attending the birthday celebration were: Mrs. Helen Jones, Mrs. Earje Moseley, Mrs. Sarah McKinnon, Mrs. Esther Davis, Mrs. Vivian Thorpe, Mrs. Celestia Sanders, Mrs. Lucretia McCoy, Mrs. Mable Umstead, Mrs. Artelia Perry, Mrs. Annie Daye, Mrs. Catherine Page, Rev. and Mrs. J.W. Barnes and Rev. and Mrs. C.R. Mitchell and daughter, Cynthia. YWCA Nacirema Club The YWCA Nacirema Club held its last monthly meeting of the season, June 22, at the home of Miss Hattie wmte for 5:30 p.m., with Mrs. Dorothy Blakeney. Meetings will resume on Monday, September 21 at the home of Mrs. Blakeney. Members present were Mmes. The meeting was conducted by Basileus Mary Harris. Ex tensive plans were for mulated for fund-raising projects. The former pro ject, flea market sale, was deemed a success and another sale is planned for July 18 at the flea market located at the Forest Drive In Theater on Wake Forest Road. The sale time will be 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Sorors Gladys B. Knox and Earnestine Boyd were welcomed back to the sisterhood. By unanimous decision, the sorority voted to keep all present officers with a minor reorganization in the existing structure. The changes included Soror Claudine W. Harris to become the corresponding secretary, Soror Ernestine i Williams tn mntimt a secretary and Soror Etta treasurer. These officers will begin their duties at the next meeting which will be held on July 18 at the home of Soror Earnestine Boyd. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess. Garden Club Holds Closing Meeting Mrs. Margaret Siler hosted the June 23 meeting of the West Durham Blossom Garden Club at her home on Sedgefield Street. The home was beautifully decorated throughout with her many house plants. Mrs. Siler was assisted by her grand daughter, Gwendolyn, of Raleigh. The Garden Gate was opened by Mrs. Gertrude Gibson, after which the president conducted, the business session. Commit tee reports were adopted; information was given the members concerning the convention, to be held in Winston-Salem, August 2-4; a delegate was chosen to attend, the nominating chairman offered a slate of officers for the new year and they were very ' impressively given the charge by Mrs. Mary T. Hortori'f and, a closing picnic for the year was discussed. The following members and guest enjoyed a delicious dinner served buffet style: Mmes.
