HARPIST SERIES — Harpist Jacquelyn Bartlett
will present the first performance in North Carolina
Central University’s Wednesday Afternoon Con
cert Series for 1981-82, with a solo concert at 4
p.m., Wednesday, September 30, in the unviersity’s
Music Building Auditorium.
Ms. Bartlett began her studies at the age of six,
Her teacher was her mother, who was the harpist
with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. She was
youthful winner of numerous prizes and honors,
The NCCU concert will feature a selection of
Irish folk tunes and works by Handel, Faure, Pro
kofiev, Naderman, Salzedo, Taileferre, and
Granados.
The Wednesday Afternoon Concert Series is
sponsored by the NCCU Lyceum Committee. Ad

YARD SALE — Dozens of artists will empty
their attics and garages to raise funds for their
gallery and center at the Second Annual
Center/Gallery Yard Sale to be held on Saturday,
October 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday,Oc
tober 4, 2-5 p.m. Center/Gallery is located at 118-A

A SELF DEFENSE WORKSHOP will be offered
on Thursday, September 29, 7-9 p.m., at the
Durham YWCA, 809 Proctor St. Learn basic kicks,
yells and punches in this introduction to self-

“WHOLE BIRTH CATALOGUE” — Almost
every pregnant woman wants to be involved in mak
ing decisions about the kind of birth experience that
is best for her and her baby. In order to help her to
become more aware of the options she has and to
enable her to assume more responsibility and con
trol over her pregnancy and childbirth experience,
the Women’s Health Counseling Service will agan
sponsor its popular eight-week series: “The Whole
Birth Catalogue.” The series will be held this fallal
the First Presbyterian Church in Hillsborough on
Wednesday evenings at 7:30. The series is tree,
although donations are appreciated.
