Taylor delivered the prayer. Plans were made to finalize business for the
remainder of the fiscal year.
Best wishes were extended to sick members Mrs. Charmin Watson and
Mrs. Gamaliel Pretty who are recuperating.
Birthday anniversary wishes were extended to Mrs. Maxine Mason.
Other members were present Mmes. Martha Turrentine, Sara Pugh,
Charlottie Tucker, Maxine Mason, Janet Kennell, and Cleo Taylor. Ms.
June Taylor was a guest at the meeting.
THE FEDERATION OF GARDEN CLUBS of North Carolina, Inc.,
will hold a committee meeting on Sat, March 24 at 10 a.m., concerning
the Fifty-Fifth Annual August Convention, at Starrford L. Warren
Library, 1201 Fayetteville St.
THE UP-TO-DATE GALEDA CLUB of Union Baptist Church will
celebrate its sixty-second armiversary. Sun., March 18, at 3 p.m. Rev.
Johnny Leak of Shiloh Baptist Church, choir, and congregation will be

The chaplain led the devotion. The Thought for the Day was read by
Mrs. Holloway. "Finding Fault" was read by Mrs. Toon. The president
presided over the business session. Reports were made and tpproved.
Members attending were: Mmes. Cora Brown, Bessie Burnette,
Servater Evans, Marion Henry, Queen E. Toon and E.B. Flintall.
The next meeting will be held April 13 at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs.
Roberta Edmundson.
THE WEST DURHAM BLOSSOM GARDEN CLUB recently held
a meeting at the home of Gardener Julia Freelartd. Gardener Mary
Jarmon opened and closed the garden gate.
President Doris Reddrick presided. A moment of silent prayer was held
for departed member Anna Duke. President Reddrick started an
impromptu talk about black history. Gardeners Julia Freeland, Mary
Horton, Naomi Parker, Mary McClary also provided some black
historical moments.
All committees made reports.
Gardener Dorethea Johnson gave an'informative talk on the importance
of herbs in our lives today.
She said that during the last hundred years, much of the art of using
herbs in cooking, as medicine or for cosmetics, has been losL especially
in the, industrialized societies. Herbs are multi purpose plants. They tue
said to provide skin tonics, relaxing baths, hair restorers and blood
purifiers.

Committee of First Calvary Baptist Church, 1311 Morehead Avenue, in
observing their Day of Celebration on Sunday, March 25, at 4 p.m. Rev.
W. E. Daye, Pastor of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, and the church

THE IRIS CATES CLUB of Mount Gilead Baptist Church will
sponsor its annual Queen’s Contest on March 18, at 4 p.m. Mrs. Mary
Rodgers and Mrs. Jettalean Pettiford are the eontestants. The male chorus
will provide the music for this event The public is invited to attend.
THE DURHAM INTERDENOMINATIONAL FIRST AID DEPT,
met Tues., Feb. 27, at Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
The meeting was presided over by the vice chairman, Mrs. Willier
McKeithan.
Committee reports were heard and adopted.
The program previously scheduled for the fourth Sunday of April has
been postponed. The group will support the mid-year session instead.
Members attending were: Mmes. Esther McKenzie, Leola McMillan,
Lennie Rose, Verly Stroud, Mary E. "Young, Velma Jones, Delois
Rogers, Mary Hooker, Ella EUerbee, Exebelle Lewis, Betty Avery. Also
attending Warren Poole and Lennie Rose.
The chairman, Mrs. Hastie Price was unable to attend.
The nest meeting will be hosted by Union Baptist Church.
ORANGE GROVE BAPTIST CHURCH, 1505 East End Avenue,
will observe the Armual Service for the Deacons, Deaconess, Trustees
and Missionary Circle, Sun., March 18, at 4 p.m. Rev. Paul A. Jackson,
choirs and congregation of First Calvary Baptist Church will be the
guests. Rev. Carl Kenny is the host pastor. The public is invited.
A CARIBBEAN STYLE FISH FRY will be held SaL, March 17,
from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Fist Calvary Baptist Church. The church is
located at 1311 Morehead Ave., at the comer of Kent St., near W. Chapel
Hill St. The cost of a full dinner is $3.75, which can be reserved by

CIRCLE met at the home of Mrs. Pearl Hardy on Bernice St. on March
6.
The sick committee reported 20 visits to the sick and shut-in, 10 sick
cards, and 6 sympathy cards were sent to the bereaved families.
Members present were: Mmes. Estelle Royster, Celie Upchurch,
Maude Thorpe, Leona Seate, Maggie Upchurch, Alice Davis, Pearl
Hardy, Odessa Sanford, and Josephine Plummer.

Methodist Episcopal Church will observe its 30th Anniversary, Sunday,

Frank White, who is serving as an assistant minister at Russell
