STORYTELLING FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER: Durham County Library needs Storytelling and hospitality hosts, parking attendance and airport transporters for this African storytelling event. Anyone 16 years and above can volunteer; 13 year olds accompanied by an adult can also volunteer. Volunteer shifts are from 10am 4pm. BIG SIBLING: The Durham Companions needs males and remaies. 18 years and above, to work as caring, responsible role models in one-on-one relationships for troubled youths. A commitment of 4 hours/week for one year is needed. Training will be provided in the overall objectives of the Center. CPR INSTRUCTORS NEEDED. With heart disease so prevalent in our country it is imperative we do all we can to change these conditions. Not only do CPR instructors teach how to help someone whose heart has stopped, they also teach people how to prevent heart disease in the first place. Call the American Red Cross, Volunteer Services, at 489-6541 for more information. THE AMERICAN RED CROSS in Durham is recruiting volunteers to assist with their Blood Pressure Screening Booths. We need volunteers that can work a two hour shift once a month. The times vary for each booth location, but the following times are open: weekday mornings and afternoons, and Saturday mornings. The volunteer should be an RN, LPN or have experience in taking vital signs. Competition will niti from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.. Volunteers are needed from 9:30 am until the end of the competition. V'olunleers are needed both in the water and out of the water. Timers, heat preparers, recorders, coaches, etc. are needed. If you are interested in volunteering the day of the competition, please contact the Wake County Special Olympics , office at 831-6847 or 831-6845. All public is invited to come by and cheer for the athletes as well. PUPPETEERS WANTED — The Child Advocacy Commission of Durham is recruiting volunteers to help with the Let’s Prevent Abuse Puppet Program. The program teaches elementary school-aged children and children with special needs about physical and sexual abuse, how to avoid it, and what to do if it occurs. If you are interested in helping with this program, please call 682-1129, outside of Durham call 1-800-548-4614. Puppet performances are being performed in Durham and Wake County. ALL CHILDREN NEED SOMEONE TO PLAY WITH, even children with AIDS. So, if You have a few extra hours a week, come volunteer with Duke University Medical Center. You’ll be a friend to someone who really needs one. Volunteer training will be held on Sat., May 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in room 1109, Duke Hospital North. For more information, call 681- 3446.
