Over 30,000 letters were received in a very short time in support of the American classic. In resportse. Ford representatives went across the country seeking companies to supply parts for a car that would be reasonably priced. In Durham, North Carolina, Custom Molders, Inc., a minority owned injection molding company, accepted the task. The result a 1994‘A Convertible Mustang GT with parts made in Durham by Durhamites. On October 18, 1993 at the Custom Molders Plant on Camden Avenue in Durham, a sneak preview of the car was held. A yellow convertible Mustang drove up to the facilities and employees had the chance to actually see parts they produced on the car. Hwa Yong Jo, president and chief executive pfficer of CME, reflected on what a monumental occasion it was for the company. Franklin R. Anderson, CMI chairmaq and founder of the company,' welcomed all who were present. The key speaker, Michael Jordan, executive irector of Ford Sales, told the audience that he was the Michael Jordan that worked. Mayor Harry Rodenhizer of Durham, who calls himself the recycled mayor, recalled that during his first term as mayor. Custom Molders was starting and has grown to the point where today it is the supplier for a large national automobile manufacturer. All pretent had the chance to closely inspect the new car that was made possible with the cooperation of a Durham Company — Custom Molders, Inc.
