May Have to Borrow From The World Bank New York, (PANA) - The United Nations, currently experiencing its most severe financial crisis since it was founded some 50 years ago, may borrow money from the World Bank to pay some of its debts, an U.N. official said. The official, Joseph Connor, the U.N. Under-Secretary-General for administration and management, said in an interview that a World Bank loan was one of many ideas being explored "to lift from our shoulders the burden of debt." Connor’s statement on the World Bank loan confirmed the one by U.N. Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali in another interview. In that interview, Boutros-Ghali said he planned to meet, James Wolfensohn, the new World Bank president, to discuss the proposal. "This crisis cannot be solved un less we borrow money," the secretary-general was quoted as saying.
