Febru ary 1. 7 p.m. at Jordan High School Auditorium 6806 Garrett Rd. . The Jabberwock Gala is the culmination of a five month scholarship program designed to assist high school juniors and seniors with skills that will be critical in making the transition to college. I his years gala will be celebrating its Clever and Captivating Jewels of elegance, service and awarding scholarships within the Durham County com munity. 2012-13 Jabberwock Queen - Janae Best will crown the new queen. The event is free and open to the public. The Sickle Cell Faith Based Initiative The Sickle Cell Initiative 2014 will celebrate Black History Month Feb. 27, at 12 noon at the Bridges Office. 800 S. Mangum St. The Penny Saving Club On Jan. 18, the Penny Savings Club held its first meeting of the year, hosted by President Kimberly Henderson and the Benevolence Committee Miss Patricia White. Mrs. Deborah Bittle, parliamentar ian. called the meeting to order and Chaplain l.aMona McCoy led the devotions. Treasurer Mrs. Mildred Jackson and Financial Secretary JoAnn Pettiford collected the club dues and savings. Mrs. Gwendolyn Cash collected the payments for the Atlanta trip. Following lunch. Secretary Rosalind Vinson read the club's min utes and the treasurer read the financial report. The president thanked all members for making the 2013 Christ mas parties a big success. The (jive Back to the Community Fund raisers were discussed. Members will contribute at the next meeting. The club started planning its 65th anniversary that will be held at the Millennium Hotel on Sept. 20. I he president reminded members to read the club's By-Laws and pray for members the will be having surgeries, this and next month Hie Benevolence Committee gave birthday cards to club mem bers: Mses.
