SOUTHERN FIGHTING POSTSEASON BAN:
All of the sports teams at Southern University are
Broussard
under a postseason ban from the
NCAA pending the school pro
viding documentation of academ
ic performance program data.
The ban was announced pub
licly at a press Conference last
Thursday by Southern Athletic
Director Dr. William Brous
sard. The "most imminent im
pact." Broussard said is on the
winter sports .teams that are now competing, including
the men's and women's basketball teams that currently sit
atop the SWAC standings. Women's bow ling and men's
and women's indoor track arc the other winter sports
teams Southern fields.
Southern was selected by the NCAA for review of
its academic data dating back to the 2009-2010 season
and the school's support staff has been working w ith the
NCAA since the fall of 2013 gathering that informalion.

Southern has met all deadlines for providing the in- J
formation and is in the process of reconciling any dis
crepancies, he said, but the school has more deadlines to
meet. If those discrepancies arc resolved ami other dead
lines are met satisfactorily. Broussard said the bans could
potentially be lifted before the start of the winter sports
championship seasons.
Broussard said the school has not been notified that 7
the penalties will be levied retroactively ami invoke the
forfeiture of Southern's 2013 football championship.
If the ban is upheld. Southern would be the fourth I

2013 out of Tennessee State. has spent most of his rookie

w ith 2.4 steals. 2.0 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game. His
contributions have helped the Vipers hold onto the top
seed in the D-League over the course of this season.
He's appeared in live games with the Rockets, axer

LANDOVER. Mil.: Hampton University swept the 2014 Mid
Eastern Athletic Conference (MI.AC) Indoor Track and Field Champi
onships al ihe Prince (igorge s Sports Complex on Saturday.
The I.adv Pirates celebrated their second consecutive and seventh
overall MEAC indoor crown wuh a total ol 147 points. Florida A&M
placed second with 133 points ami Morgan State linished third with 74
points.
Hamplon's Teiara Denmark linished with 32 points to earn the Out
standing Field Athlete ami teammate Ce'aira Brown garnered the Out
standing Runner with 25 points. Hampton head coach Manrice Pierce
earned (hilsianding Coach honors lor both teams.
On the men s side. Hampton won its lirsi crown since 1996 with 1 14
points and snapped Norlolk Slate's run of live ol the last six champion
ships. The Spartans were unable lo defend the title due to postseason in
eligibility.
Bethune-Cookman linished second with HD points, while North
Carolina A& T placed third with 95 points,

The Falcons captured their 17th straight CIAA indoor crow
29th conference championship overall. They arc ihe defending N
Division II indoor and outdoor champions. The Lady Falcons won
second CIAA crown in a row and their 17111 in 18 seasons.
The Falcons (men) scored 194 points to w in easily over theirli
opponents. Virginia Union w as second w ith 99 points and Virginia
was third w ith 72 points. The trio of DeJon Wilkinson. JaQuan W
and David Shaw of the Falcons were named Men's CIAA MVPs
field events.
