2014 for the Bus Driveway Rehabilitation at Southwest Elementary
School, 2320 Cook Road, Durham, NC 27713
Solicitations of proposals for this project will be informal
A Pre-Bid site visit is scheduled for Wednesday February 26,
2014 - at 4:00pm at Southwest Elementary School.
Project Description: The project includes the removal of existing
asphalt surface and refortification of existing sub-base CABC to a
uniform depth of 10 inches and new 4.75 inch asphalt surface. Bid
Alternate #1 allows for Full-Depth Reclamation (FDR) of the sub
base to a depth of 10 inches and a new 3 inch Asphalt surface. The
bus driveway project includes the rehabilitation of a 670 foot section
driveway extending from the intersection with Cook Road to the
Parking Lot “throat”.
After the award of the contract, a Pre-Construction Conference will
be held at a place and time established by the Engineer.
Minority Participation: Bidders shall note that compliance with the
Owners MAA/BE Participation Policy and the North Carolina Statue
143-128.2 (c) is applicable to this project.
No bid may be withdrawn after the scheduled closing time for the
receipt of bids for a period of sixty (60) days.
Bid Security required is 5% of the bid in cash, certified Check, or
Bid Bond.
Performance and Payment Bonds will be required by the Durham
Public Schools for 100% of the work prior to the Durham Public
Schools entering into a construction contract.
Bids will be opened in public and read in the presence of those
interested, but the right is reserved to waive informalities. After Bids
are opened, they will be evaluated in accordance with the methods
and criteria set forth in the Bidding Documents.

GREENSBORO. N.C. - The Lady Eagles of the North Carolina
Central University bowling team had a strong performance, earning
a second place finish behind in-state rival North Carolina A&T al the
Aggie Invitational on Feb. 21-23 in Greensboro. N.C.
The Lady Eagles finished with a 9-4 overall record.
The three-day bowling tournament hosted by the Aggies of North
Carolina A&T included eight additional programs: Faxetteville State.
Norfolk State. Morgan State. Winston-Salem Stale. Shaw. University
of Alabama at Birmingham. Hampton, and NCCU.
On day one. NCCU posted a 3-2 record in the four game baker
play, defeating Shae (704-578). University of Alabama-Birmingham
(658-641). and Fayetteville State (685-665). During traditional team
play, the Lady Eagles continued their strong performance, ending
day two with a record of4-1. Hampton (867-7II). Winston-Salem
State (900-782). Shaw (750-670). and Morgan State (819-690) suf
fered losses to the Lady Eagles. NCCU concluded da\ three in baker
play, defeating Fayetteville State (4-3) and University of Alabama-
Birmingham (4-2) fora 2-1 record.
Individually. Kourtney Rodez led the Lady Eagles as she earned a
spot on the all-tournament team after finishing fifth among individual
bowlers. Rodez cleared 958 total pins, averaged 191.6. and had a
high game of222.
NCCU will return to the lanes on March 1-2 as hosts of the third
MEAC Southern Division tournament in Durham. N.C.

The Durham County Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC)
Board is accepting applications for its FY 2014 grant program
focused on alcohol abuse education and prevention. All non-
profit agencies and community organizations with programs
that address these areas are eligible to apply.
Applications must be submitted no later than midnight on
April 30, 2014. All applications will be assessed to determine
which applicants best meet the eligibility and performance
criteria outlined in the Durham County ABC grant program
guidelines. Grants funding decisions will be determined by
the Durham County ABC Board. Grant recipients will be
